Weissbrau German Bistro & Bar

Once again we are pleased to be invited to sample new menu from Weissbrau German Bistro & Bar, Thanks to the coordination of Gil and Jason from Gourmet Garden as well.
Weissbrau is a combination of German word which translate to White Beer which is one of the most common and popular beer in German, Weissbrau was first establish in Kuala Lumpur at the strategic location of Pavilion and soon they have decided to have another outlet in Penang Straight Quay which is one of the most happening place lately.

We going to review soup, starter, main dish and dessert, few of them from each category.
Let get started with the first meal review,
Classic Caesar Salad RM18.80, Weissbrau emphasize on homemade hence the mayo serve in this plate is actually made by them self, it was a great start to have such refreshing vegetable as starter.

Porcini Soup RM18.80, Porcini is a type of wild mushroom that has chewy texture and strong nutty-woodsy, sweet and meaty taste. As not everyone love big chunks of mushroom especially in mushroom soup hence this bowl of soup was serve with chop mushroom.

Soup served with Croissant and butter, like the crispy outer layer and inner soft smooth texture.

Bacon & Cheese Burger and Fries RM28, Burger bun is crispy and the extra bacon create a great flavor to overall taste. Portion is very big.

Chocolate Mousse Top with Pear RM14.80, what make this special is the look like “ice cream” chocolate mousse, it look like a scoop of ice cream but it not, instead it was a mousse hence it don’t have icy texture but with rich chocolate smooth texture that just slip through your tongue.

Parma Ham Melon RM38 is what really impress me with the well presented dish design, a few pieces of honeydew in middle and surrounded with Parma Ham.
Don’t be fool by the decoration, the honey dew is not for decoration only instead it play a major role for this dish, without the present of honey dew the overall taste will be ruin.

Now is tell you how to eat, thanks to Jason for this sharing else we will not truly enjoy the great dish. Jason cut the sweet and refreshing honey dew into small pieces and top with the Parma Ham, as the Parma Ham is very salty hence it just a superb combination to be taken with the sweet honey dew. It taste awesome.

Potato Salad With Frankfurter RM28, frankfurter is springy and taste just nice, below frankfurter is potato pickle.

Pork Knuckle with Mini Roesti Weissbrau RM48, is the signature dish not only in Weissbrau instead it was one of the great dish from Germany. It not a easy dish to prepare as it required a whole 4 days of marinated process and they produce just enough to serve, this is to ensure quality and freshness. On later part I will share with you on how a raw pork knuckle turn into golden brown color pork knuckle.
Pork Knuckle accompany with Classic Rosti which is a traditional Swiss potato dish pan fried with butter and that portion making you full for sure.

Nicely cook pork knuckle served with homemade red wine sauce, the sauce is not too strong instead it the mild wine sauce making you ask for more and the crispy skin with layer of fat and meat is so delicious.
If you doubt why the pork knuckle is so small compare to other shop, is because they use only fore-leg only instead of the whole, this is the best part for a soft and tender meat.

As well, it served with few other German side dishes.

Sauerkraut or we call it sour cabbage, is finely shredded cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria which has a very sour flavor.

Spätzli is a kind of egg noodle with soft texture, it taste very different from our egg noodle.

Here is the 4 days process of making the Pork Knuckle, you can see below picture shown a big chunk of raw pork knuckle which prepare to be marinated

After day or two of marinated process, it shrink and become smaller where the taste of the marinated sauce absorbing.

After day 4, it time to be served to customer and the size is become even smaller.
