Welcome to the whole new shopping complex in Penang, Gurney Paragon. In conjuction to the opening of Gurney Paragon there is one brand new restaurant grand opening as well which is Miam Miam Penang restaurant, a French married Japanese Café & Kitchen which situated at St Jo building next to Italiannese. Well, I should say this is my truly new experience dining in a Japanese and French combine restaurant and I can’t wait to test out their dishes.
Without long list of dishes in the menu making me easy to identified what to ordered and I do believe they able to deliver the best from the menu. The price is slightly higher from the menu but is it really expensive? Well, I let you judge later since the food presentation, ingredients and portion are taking into calculation.
I know you are hungry and looking forward for what we going to share but please hold a while, let us share with you some history about this restaurant. We had a conversation with one of the extremely friendly owner, from our conversation we know that this restaurant own by 3 “gao chiak” person who’s has the passion for food and they always looking for something new and delicious, one fine day 3 of them sit together and think what they want to do for their retire life. After some thinking they come to an agreement that they love food, they have the passion for food and they want to open up a restaurant to share with everyone. On rush they make the decision to open up Miam Miam in Gurney Paragon which is just 5 weeks before the grand opening, within the 5 weeks’ time they face whole lot of challenge such as heritage building renovation limitation, human resource, saucing ingredients and so on but they manage to overcome all those challenge and Miam Miam is finally into business. We are truly impress by their dedication and passion.
Iced Matcha Latte with Softee RM12.80, Japanese Green Tea blended together with fresh milk topped with Matcha softee. The taste of the matcha is pretty rich and perfectly balanced with fresh milk, softee ice cream is creamy and full of matcha flavor, it is a very smooth drink.
Japanese Wafu Market Salad RM10.80 is combination of assorted fresh vegetable with seaweed and bonito flakes which taste so special and something different from ordinary salad. It taste sautéed together with crunchy texture which help to kick start our stomach, we are ready for more.
French Homard Bisque RM13, Homard aka Lobster in French while Bisque mean smooth and creamy soup. As the title said this is original French Lobster Creamy Soup, at first it look just normal but immediately after first taste we are truly impress by the natural sweetness of lobster, it is extremely rich in flavor and creamy. Dipping with the toast provided also very delicious.
Miam Miam Spaghetti RM24.80 with Onsen Egg, Eggplant, Bacon, Shimenii & Sausage. Food portion is pretty big and definitely enough for two person, Onsen Egg catches my eye. Mix the Onsen Egg with Spaghetti thoroughly then enjoy the delicious spaghetti, the al-dente spaghetti taste sautéed and the egg help to smoothen the spaghetti while the sauce and bacon help to bring out the flavor.
Miam Miam Pot-Baked Curry Rice RM26.80, a truly Japanese dish that has great Japanese Curry top with fresh vegetable, egg, sausage and a layer of cheese. It mainly has two very strong flavor in this dish which is Curry and Cheese, although both of them trying to overpower each other but the right amount of both ingredients well balanced up the dish, the rice is well cooked to main it texture while the curry cheese sauce making it very delicious.
Pot-Baked Souffle Doria RM26.80. Are you serving us “Vanilla Souffle” in such a big portion? HaHa! No! It is Souffle but it is Pot-Baked Souffle Doria which has rice in it and it is main dish instead of dessert. This dish has the option of either beef or without beef, butter fried with rice covered with soufflé then baked to golden color. It taste creamy but definitely recommended for sharing as one person cannot finish eating this alone.
Famous French Toast RM16.80, with homemade whipped cream and maple syrup. If you will to ask me why are they serving something we can prepare daily then my answer will be “TRY IT”. It look to be simple egg dip toast then pan fried but when you taste it then you know the different, the toast is not too moisture instead it remain fluffy while the extra whipped cream gave a smooth texture together with sweetness from maple syrup. The taste recall my childhood, I just in love with it.
Classic Vanilla Souffle (Pot-Baked) RM16.80 is a MUST TRY. If you have watch MasterChef or Hell Kitchen or … some Cooking Show before then you know that making a soufflé is not easy as it required great control of timing to ensure it rise beautifully. I like the strong vanilla taste with egg fragrance and the smooth texture, it not too sweet either and definitely fit our taste bud. Instead of vanilla you may opt for Matcha as well which we going to try on next visit.
We are truly impress by Miam Miam food especially their Spaghetti and Souffle. You can join our Taste…iest Facebook Fanpage to keep yourself updated on all the latest from Taste…iest, Penang Food Blog.
