Okomen Japanese Restaurant specialized in Okonomiyaki and Ramen which is a newly open restaurant in Queensbay Queenstreet located just beside Taiwan Bull. Before this we try Okonomiyaki at Daimon Lowyat and we just love it so much. Penang has not much shop selling Okonomiyaki except Fresh Fruit Tea Expert which we try long time ago.
Let get started with Okonomiyaki first, we try 3 different Okonomiyaki.
Seafood Modanyaki 海鲜摩登大阪烧 RM26.80, as you can see from the first picture Bonito Fish Flake is served separate which is quite surprise to us as normally it was put on top of the Okonomiyaki while it hot so that i will “dance” when served, maybe they want to preserved the nice design. Anyhow, we put the whole plate of Bonito Fish Flake into it and wait, did we miss something? Yes, where is the Seaweed Powder? OMG, it was there at our table since we sat down. OK, put the seaweed powder to enhance the flavor. Trust us, it will definitely help to create a much better flavor.
Seafood Modanyaki is pretty big in portion and good for sharing, topping with home made sweet sauce with assorted vegetable filling and ramen at bottom.
Pork Omu Soba 蛋包猪肉炒面 RM16.80, fried noodle with pork meat wrapped with egg which look like pattaya fried rice. Pretty delicious as it use the home made sweet sauce and mayonnaise to enhance the flavor.
Buta O Nankotsu Ramen 豚王猪软骨拉面 RM20.80, if you looking for a true bone soup then you must try this soup as it was boiled for 18 hours before served, long hour of boiling making the soup milky color and the flavor is just awesome, most important is no MSG added. The ramen is springy and the meat is so soft that can easily bite off.
Fried Gobo 炸牛蒡 RM9.80, Gobo or we call it burdock root which is not so common in our environment i guess. It taste pretty much like crispy potato with slightly thicker texture and a little bit sweet aftertaste.
