We visited Gertak Sanggul Fishing Stage Seafood Restaurant sometime back and recently we hear there is another restaurant offer extremely fresh seafood so we decided to give it a try. We call the owner Evon and ask for reservation, she then ask us to order seafood upfront in order for them to prepare but……later you will know why.
The restaurant is located right opposite Gertak Sanggul Fishing Stage Seafood Restaurant. Driving into Jalan Gertak Sanggul, all the way in you will pass by KhunThai Seafood Restaurant and HaiBoey Seafood Restaurant, continue straight for another 10-15min then you will be in Gertak Sanggul, you will see a big red Telekom tower on your right that is Gertak Sanggul Fishing Stage Seafood Restaurant, on your left is the restaurant we going to visit today.
The restaurant is pretty small with just a few table available, it more like a family business. We are greeted by Evon and she start to arrange table for us and immediately start preparing our food. We are so surprised and start asking each other, do you told them what flavor and how to cook? No! No! then how they prepare? nobody know. Just a few minute later our food is served, prawn, shell, squid…etc. Now we know why they don’t ask, because every seafood has their own cooking method and it kind of fixed. Anyhow, we are more than happy for someone to decide that for us. Must be a reason for their bold move, freshness. They must be very confidence with their seafood only they dare to prepare everything simple. Well, let see.
Steamed Prawn RM50 , big fresh white prawn steamed in wine which has very mild wine flavor instead the soup is full of prawn sweetness. We found the prawn to be under cook, we do not know whether they purposely cook it that way to show freshness or what but it a little bit chewy but definitely can taste the sweetness and freshness.
Steamed Grouper Fish RM60, it is the most expensive dish of the night but it also one of the best dish we had. We can taste the sweetness and smooth of grouper fish meat immediately, obviously it is not those farm grown type. It is steamed with soy sauce to bring out it original freshness and sweetness taste, we really enjoy the smooth texture of the fish meat.
Deep Fried Fish RM15, in hokkien we call “Ji Ya Hu” which is a type of small fish that famous for deep fried. There is more than 10 fishes in our plate and it only cost RM15, definitely a good price. The fish is perfectly deep fried to have a very crunchy texture but still maintain juicy meat in it.
Last but not least is our favorite Steamed Flower Crab RM45. We order 5 LIVE flowers crab. Yes, I bold LIVE because it is extremely hard to get LIVE flowers crab in market, but they got it here. Although it not super size but it has quite standard size with a lot of crab egg in it. Honestly, I have never try a crab that is so fresh and sweet before, it is so sweet and the meat in every leg is so full and firm, every bite you got to taste the crab sweetness and the mouthful of crab meat is just awesome.
Not only the seafood is awesome here but view also breathtaking, you can spend sometime to walk around the beach before dinner. Anyhow, we are glad to found another great seafood restaurant in Penang. Again, if you decided to dine there, please give a call to Evon.
