The BAR°N at Gurney Plaza Penang

The BAR°N first outlet outside of KL are now opening at Gurney Plaza Penang, the bar and restaurant serving not only great variety of food with local influence dishes but also wide range of wine and other alcoholic drinks. The BAR°N occupying the shop lot which previously run by Chicago Ribs House, now it has a brand new renovation that demonstrated simple and relax environment. Outdoor seating are available along with other restaurant on gurney walkway between gurney plaza and gurney hotel, we prefer to sit inside with air-conditional and comfortable chair. One side of the wall are fill with wine collection, to those wine lover this must be heaven.

The BAR°N menu consist of only two pages but it pack a punch of food, it has pretty much everything about Western/Italian food and next page are full with alcoholic drink Cocktail, Beer, Wine and Mocktails.

Crispy Pork Belly RM29, personally i am Crispy Pork Belly aka Roasted Pork maker and you can see my recipe here but after eating the very first bite of their Pork Belly i have to say “I need improvement on my recipe”. It is perfectly marinated to flavor and roasted to crispy skin and served with garlic chili sauce with a hint of lime.

Pigs in Blankets RM19, sausage wrapped with bacon served with crunchy cucumber. It has well balanced flavor as the bacon fragrance blend nicely with sausage and crunchy yet refreshing cucumber make it taste even better.

Oven Baked Portobello Mushroom with Bacon, Tomato & Cheese RM29, big size Portebello mushroom cover with extremely strong flavor tomato puree which overpower the Portebello Mushroom fragrance. Personally I found it a little bit overcook as mushroom are too soft and the mushroom flavor has gone.

The BARN Mini Open-Faced Sandwiches RM19, a slice of Baguette top with asparagus and deep fried quail egg served with Hollandaise sauce.

BBQ Baby Back Pork Ribs RM59, waitress are ready to perform whenver they served Pork Ribs, a cup of alcohol pour over pork ribs and fire it up not only for presentation instead it served the purpose of adding extra flavor to the pork ribs. Pork Ribs are extremely tender and soft, meat are easily separated from bone and it taste extremely good, strong barbecue sauce taste, served with zucchini, potato and red capsicum with a bowl of coleslaw.

Atlantic Cod Fish RM69, big pieces of COD fish grilled to perfection top with white sauce served with zucchini, pumpkin, potato and capsicum. Cod fish is extremely generous in size, it taste fresh with it strong fish oil fragrance and smooth texture.

Yes, it indeed my mother favorite dishes, where roasted pork stir fried with black sauce and chili padi with sugar to created the sticky texture with sweet and spicy taste roasted pork. Brilliant idea to make it a burger as fresh vegetable help to balanced it texture and taste, big mouth are required to eat this supr size burger.

Affogato RM21, a scoop of ice cream with espresso is our all time favorite but they add on a cup of alcohol that use for fire up the dessert slightly spoil the taste of Affogato, that big cup of alcohol overpower ice cream sweetness and espresso bitter taste.

Deep Fried Banana with Gula Melaka Syrup RM19, perfectly deep fried banana goes well with Gula Melaka and Ice Cream, banana served hot which has crunchy texture and dipping with ice cream created a well balanced flavor.

Chocolate Volcano RM29, one of the challenging dessert definitely is Chocolate Volcano as too less heat it wont melt and too much heat it will sink. We had a perfect Chocolate Volcano that melt and trust me, it taste awesome with those high grade chocolate. It has a little bit of biter taste with mild sweetness.
