Ah Soon Kor Har Mee aka Hokkien Mee

Penang famous street food Hokkien Mee is my all time favorite, honestly in Penang you can easily get a bowl of good hokkien mee. Today we try the one use to be open at Sin Kim San Food Court which now move to Jalan Perak with very own shop lot selling only Hokkien Mee. Parking is a real problem here as only 2 car can stop in-front of the shop else you need to park further and walk over.
Ah Soon Kor Hokkien Mee

Simple setup with a few table, honestly it is pretty hot in the afternoon.
Ah Soon Kor Hokkien Mee

RM5 for normal while RM7 for special, special came with extra Roasted Pork and Deep Fried Mantis Prawn. Highly recommended RM7 as the portion is big enough for an adult and the add on ingredients is so tasty.
Ah Soon Kor Hokkien Mee

The roasted pork skin is very crispy and the deep fried mantis prawn is crunchy and flavorful as well which goes well with the prawn soup.
Ah Soon Kor Hokkien Mee

RM5 seem to be a little less ingredients with only slice prawn, egg and slice meat only.
Ah Soon Kor Hokkien Mee

The Hokkien Mee soup is very sweet and full of prawn flavor, remember to add chili paste. Adding in the chili paste enhance the overall flavor and taste.
Ah Soon Kor Hokkien Mee

Although the prawn is slice into half but it still big enough to have a good bite.
Ah Soon Kor Hokkien Mee

Most important we don’t feel thirsty after eating, yummy!

Fresh Fruit Juice, assorted fresh fruits mix and match. Highly recommended the Dragon Fruits mixed with Apple and Orange, although the price is slightly on the high side but consider the amount of fresh fruit blended it still worth the value.

Char Koay Teow, a big surprise to us. We never expect the Char Koay Teow to be that authentic consider the lack of pork lard, the big portion of Char Koay Teow is so delicious.

Wu Jia Zhuang Claypot Hokkien Mee aka Prawn Noodle Penang Food

Wu Jia Zhuang Claypot Hokkien Mee(吴家庄砂煲福建虾面) is a newly open restaurant serving Penang signature Hokkien Mee or Prawn Noodle. It located at Penang Siam Road which has very limited parking space, in front of the restaurant got around 6 space, if it full then you can park along the road side.
Wu Jia Zhuang Claypot Hokkien Mee

Here come the signature Hokkien Mee RM6.50 small, RM7.50 big.
The Hokkien Mee served in claypot which help to keep it hot, I worry the noodle will be overcook but luckily they manage to keep it in perfect texture. The prawn is an add on for RM2.50 each(during out visit only small prawn so they give us 2 for RM2.50), you may add some other side dishes such as chicken leg, egg, loh bak, bean curb…etc as well.
Claypot Hokkien Mee

The Claypot Hokkien Mee served with boiled egg, whole pieces of small prawn, kangkung and shallot.
We order the small Claypot Hokkien Mee which we feel quite small in portion but the soup is extremely delicious, very sweet and full of prawn taste. Best thing is we don’t really feel thirsty after finish whole bowl of soup, i really like the soup as it really smooth and delicious, it is not spicy, if you prefer it to taste spicy you may add some chili paste as well, which will help to boost the spiciness but reduce the soup sweetness.
Claypot Hokkien Mee

Chicken Leg RM4, it is so high in collagen that make it so sticky, Chicken Leg is well cook till very soft which can easily split between bone and skins, it will be good if the herbal taste stronger.
Braised Chicken Leg

Overall we really enjoy the Hokkien Mee, you can join our Taste…iest Facebook Fanpage to keep yourself updated on all the latest from Taste…iest, Penang Food Blog. By the way, you may check out another Hokkien Mee down the road Tua Wa Kong Hokkien Mee at 8 Row which is quite delicious as well.
