Kota When Francis Meets Rempah at Fort Cornwallis

We have long heard about Francis Light but do you know “When Francis Meets Rempah” what will happen? Yup, a restaurant with Western style decoration but served local food with all sort of rempah. That is what Kota about, a restaurant that give us surprise, surprise and surprise with it unique and creative dishes.

Comfortable environment with see through glass throughout the whole restaurant.

Nutmeg RM14, a bottle of nutmeg juice that perfectly grind and filter to have the smooth texture, it tastes extremely refreshing.

Cendol RM16, mixture of Gula Melaka, Coconut Milk, Pandan, Cendo and Red Bean served in cup, the combination of Gula Melaka and coconut milk is just awesome, it has very strong fragrance of each and form a unique flavor.

Kay Kut Teh RM29, Malaysia famous Chinese herbal soup, instead of pork they replace it with chicken since Kota is a pork free restaurant, included ingredients are rice served in sweet bean curb, mushroom, bean curb and one big piece of grilled chicken. So, we never expect big portion when this item place under Soup section in menu, this seem like a main dish to us. But….we are happy since we are big eater and the more the merrier. Herbal soup are cook to flavor to have strong herbal fragrance, enjoy while it still hot.

Jumbo Platter RM38, Pai Tee Cup, Chicken Lollipop, Chinese Bun with Jiu Hu Char, Tandoori Chicken, Kerabu and Yam Char Siew. Seriously, this is the best platter i ever have, a plate of Penang culture. It has all the necessary element to demo Penang culture as a whole by introducing each and every race food in just one single plate. Chicken Lollipop are perfectly marinated and wrap with lemongrass, it has nice flavor with strong lemongrass fragrance, Yam Char Siew is my favorite as the yam are so smooth in texture and char siew are perfectly flavor, deep fried Yam Char Siew has crispy skin with moist and smooth texture inside together with nice flavor char siew is just awesome. Miam Miam Penang Gurney Paragon

Miam Miam is one of our favorite restaurant for spaghetti and dessert, whenever people asking where to go for good spaghetti we will for sure ask them to visit Miam Miam. By the way, even though we have so many delicious food in this review but we still come back the next day with family member for another of dessert. It just taste so good and my sister so happy.

Fresh Fruit Tea Hot RM15 is good enough for sharing, mixture of mint leave, orange and strawberry with english tea, another important item is plum. All combine to create a very unique taste, sweet and sour.

Farquhar Mansion is a well establish fine dining restaurant in Penang, offering great food and environment for a romantic dining experience. We came here for Farquhar Mansion Dinner and Farquhar High Tea before and never disappointed with the food.

Pieroth Blue Burg Layer Schlosskapelle is a Germany white wine that taste sweet with a mild spicy taste that is easy to accept by most people due to it smooth texture.

Complimentary bread with butter, it is not typical butter instead 3 different type of home made butter served that each has it own special taste and texture.

Amuse Bouchee served are very special in term of presentation, they make it look like soil at the bottom of Amuse Bouchee it is instead edible soil. Among three item we had are Cod Ball mix with Bearnaise and Potato Noodle on the left. In the middle is Salmon Skin, Ebiko and Micro Greens while on the right is Potato, Cream and Black Olive.

Mushroom Terroir is all about mushroom where assorted mushroom are use to create varies dishes and incorporate together. Sauteed Portobello Mushroom with caramelize onion, top with asparagus served with dried mushroom and a slice of truffle.

Foie Gras Flavor, if this will to served on other restaurant than probably it will be on the main dish menu but at Farquhar they make it as appetizer, a big portion of appetizer, a big piece of Foie Gras. It is perfectly cook to crispy texture while maintain juicy inside, it served with Apple Chutney, Foie Grass Foam, Berries Brioche, Port and Wine Emulsion. It has extremely strong Foie Gras fragrant and taste extremely good.

Broccoli Espuna is a refreshing soup that at first taste refreshing and green but a feel scoop later with a oyster inside it make the soup taste thick with oyster freshness taste. Air Dried Leek on top gave a sweet boost to it flavor.

Premier Australian Lamb Rack RM258, served with Ravioli, Roasted Beef Root, Chutney, Sweet Pea. Chef recommend medium and they did it extremely well, it is perfectly seal and cook to perfection in term of texture and flavor.

Black Angus Tenderloin RM288 served with Beef Cheek Raviolo, Potato Cream, Onion Jam and Asparagus. I like the thick cut of beef as it best in contain the juiciness while preserved the beef natural sweetness, we had medium and again they did well in cooking the beef. It is so smooth in texture and simple cook it good enough to bring out the best taste of beef.

Cheese Platter served with assorted Cheese, Grape, Apricot and Fig Jam. Taking cheese with grape is always the best option as both create a great combination in term of taste and texture.

Mango is the dessert name that make it look like only a piece of Mango but it instead has a great variety of mix dessert in a plate with awesome presentation that make it look so colorful. Included in the dessert plate are Mango Coconut Cheese Cake, Mango Compote, Mango Sorbet and Panna Cotta.

Soul Cafe Christmas Menu

We are so excited to visit Soul Cafe again and since Soul Cafe is our all time favorite restaurant so today we have high expectation to try out their going to launch Christmas menu. 2015 Christmas dinner available on 23th and 24th December only but the pricing is definitely attractive, for just RM88/pax you and your love one can enjoy 4 course meal in such a lovely restaurant.

Drinks are either Apple & Lime Fizzy or Wild Berries Fizzy. We choose to have Apple & Lime Fizzy which are extremely refreshing with a little bit of sourish taste making it a good start of the night.

Starter are Hokkaida Scallop with cauliflower puree, ebiko and micro herbs. Two big size of scallop nicely pan fried to seal the juiciness serving with cauliflower puree that is very fresh in taste together with ebiko sauteed taste making it a well balanced starter.

While on main dishes there is two option available which are Smoked Duck Breast or Roasted Chicken Whole Leg.
Smoked Duck Breast served with hickory barbeque sauce, brussels stoemp, sauteed seasonal vegetable. Even without putting the duck breast into my mouth I know it going to taste good, extremely crispy skin with succulent duck meat are so flavorful. Served on a generous amount of mash potato with barbeque sauce that make it taste wonderful.

Roasted Chicken Whole Leg served with diane sauce, brussel stoemp, sauteed seasonal vegetable. Nicely marinated chicken leg roasted to perfection to create a crispy skin and flavorful chicken meat, dip with the special Diane sauce which are creamy with a little bit sauteed taste making it a perfect combination.

Dessert are Classic Vanilla Panna Cotta with Strawberry coulis, butter crumble. As usual, the freshly made Panna Cotta are always good, serving with Strawberry Coulis that are not too sweet are just nice for balanced flavor.

Viva Italiano Buffet Promotion at Garden Cafe Golden Sands Resort Hotel Penang

We visited Sigi’s Bar & Grill On The Beach Restaurant few months back and now return for Italiano Buffet at Garden Cafe. There is an ongoing promotion for Italian Cuisine Buffet Promotion until end of October 2015, priced at RM78nett for adult and RM39nett for child. Compare to other hotel buffet, seem like Golden Sands has one of the very best pricing for buffet in Hotel.

Garden Cafe located next to Hotel lobby, it is an open air restaurant surrounded by trees and open spaces. Nice table arrangement with huge spaces in between, comfort chair with clean utensils. Although it is an open air restaurant but no mosquito was notice throughout our dining time.

Over to the first counter nearby to entrance is Appetizer and Salad Bar, assorted fresh vegetable with great variety of dressing available. Cold dishes such as Caprese Salad, Poached Half Shell Mussel, Grilled Trio Color Pepper with Drizzle Pesto, Cold Cut Ham, Marinated Tomato…etc.

Next to Salad bar is Soup Counter where two type of soup Minestrone Casalinga and Crème de Pomodoro. Minestrone Casalinga taste very close to “loh song tong (罗宋汤)” sour, sweet with a little bit of sweetness. It is my favorite soup, very appetizing.

Freshly Baked Bread and Grissini with Salted together with butter and margarine. Tested Grissini which taste pretty much like cheese stick which is crunchy with a little bit salted taste.

A big chunk of Roasted Beef with Caramelize Onion Brown Sauce next, it is nicely marinated and roasted to perfection. Beef still pinky as it cut and extremely flavorful and soft, it is not chewy at all. Adding on Caramelize Onion Brown Sauce making it taste even better.

Over to Hot Dishes counter, there is loaded of dishes ready to fill our stomach. Risi e Bisi, Pasticio, Milanese Style Osso Bocco, Baked Pesto Chicken, Pan Fried Fish with Dill Cream Sauce, Potatoes Gnocchi with Green Peas served with Cream Sauce, Grilled Lamb Cutlet with Thyme Garlic Gravy, Sautéed Broccoli and Carrot and Grilled Prawn with Parmigiana Paprika Cream Sauce.

Italian Cuisine must have Pasta and there is whole lot of Pasta available for selection (Penne, Spaghetti, Fusilli) with different sauces such as Carbonara, Bolognese, Marinara and Napolitana.

Fresh Fruits available such as Watermelon, Honey Dew, Papaya, Pineapple and hidden fruits such as Mango, Apple, Orange…etc. Why i call it hidden? just because you need to peel yourself, it is not really hide under the table. LOL!

While on dessert counter there is lot of whole cake available, to name a few such as Apple Pie, Cherry Cake, Panna Cotta, Fruits & Nuts Cake, Tiramisu, Peach Cobbler…etc. Many selection for dessert but if you notice there is lack of something, something that every buffet and “Italian” related, Yes…Ice Cream. We can’t find any ice cream in the buffet line which we hope to complete our meal with a cup of Gelato.
