Hor Loh Durian and Durian Cake

I really can’t resist durian temptation, has been eating multiple time this season and this round I going to share with you very famous Hor Loh and so called “Green Skin”.

Hor Loh Durian (Water Gourd Durian) RM16, is not as creamy instead it was a little dry and quite bitter, flesh is in orange colour. Hor Loh get the name from it shape which look like water gourd. Always recommended.

Green Skin (Che Pui) Durian RM9, is creamyx and bitter, flesh is in orange colour. But my research tell me Green Skin flesh suppose to be white creamy instead of orange colour hence I feel cheated. Anyhow the taste for this Durian is actually really good so I not really care about it name.

Durian Cake RM6, a mixture of flour, sugar and Durian flesh. It taste sweet, chewy and sticky. This Durian Cake is very strong Durian flavor as the amount of flour is less which make this Durian Cake very tasty.

Best Porridge and Cheese Prawn at Kedai Makanan Rasa Lain

Rasa Lain is very famous in Ipoh and even popular after Axian visit, we have to call upfront for booking to ensure we got a table. It started to get crowded after 6.30PM and hot seafood like crab and prawn are finish fast.

Nai Pat Vegetable RM10, The fried vegetable was fried in a delicious gravy and crunchy.

Fish Porridge RM66, it was cook with main ingredient of white pomfret. Look at the picture and you know how generous Rasa Lain to their customer.

White Pomfret is very fresh and sweetness disolve into soup make the porridge so delicious. Amount of fish meat is so much that every bowl of porridge at least has 2 slice.

Fish Ball RM9, as big as ping pong ball. It really can bounce like ping pong ball but taste just normal.

Cheese Prawn RM50, SUPERB! Sweet, Sour, Salty and Cheeses. Big fresh prawn cook with cheese in claypot, very juicy and delicious. It is best dipped into claypot cheese again after taken off the shell.

Look at it..Cheese…A lot of Cheese………I going to dream about it again tonight…!

Jiang Gu (Pork)RM18, pork marinated with sweet sauce and deep fried. Tasty

Asam Squid RM18, I not really like this dish but my Lovely like it very much, name said the flavor ~ASAM. Sour, Spicy and Sweet taste.

Pig Tail Braise Peanut RM22, a few of my friend never tried this before and personally myself ate pig tail before in Bah Kut The but not in standalone dish.
I like Pig Tail very much because the meat is very soft, cook with braise peanut make it even better.

Their most recommended dish was the Tang Hun Crab RM54. Very generous amount of glass noodles given. Crab sweetness, pork lard and ham added taste to the Tang Hun and little bit of pepper make it even perfect. Size of the crabs is larger than usual and fresh.

Onn Kee Bean Sprouts Chicken Rice at Ipoh

Bean Sprouts Chicken is one the very famous dish in Ipoh, on Jalan Yau Tet Sin alone tree restaurant selling Bean Sprouts Chicken. Restaurant Onn Kee, Restaurant Ong Kee and Restaurant Lou Wong, we choose Restaurant Onn Kee as most of us tried Lou Wong before and Ong Kee seem to be less people.

Cost saving decoration? But it was nice anyway.

Less than 10minute one whole chicken is served with some spring onion and chili on top.

Chicken meat is a little bit tough and not as good as expected, furthermore the black soy sauce is just salty and nothing special.

Ipoh is well known for their short and fat bean sprouts, in Ipoh Bean Sprouts is serve separate from the chicken. Honestly I prefer Lou Wong Short Fat Bean Sprouts than Onn Kee as Onn Kee Bean Sprouts is not that fat compare to what I ate last time in Lou Wong or maybe now is just not the season? I not sure.

Plate of Chicken organ, only a few of us enjoy this plate.

Pork ball and Fish ball, the pork ball is really big and salted fish mix inside make it a little bit salty and tasty while the fish ball is nothing really special.

I ordered Koay Teow which is smooth and soup is tasty, perfect combination with Bean Sprouts

My lovely ordered rice and she make it like a normal chicken rice set. Nice!

Onn Kee ORIGINAL…

Overall, not really impress with the well known Restaurant Onn Kee Bean Sprouts Chicken.

Yoke Fook Moon Dim Sum Ipoh

Start our Ipoh stomach building from one of the famous Dim Sum in Ipoh, Yoke Fook Moon. Yoke Fook Moon is a 2 storey building and operate for brunch and dinner.


We reach around 10.30am and it was very crowded, we din’t realize there is 2nd floor and stupidly waiting for table around 20min untill one aunty told us to go upstair.

Chili Paste provided is different from other shop, normally Dim Sum Restaurant provided chili paste is sweet but Yoke Fook Moon Chili Paste is spicy and taste better.

A good Dim Sum Restaurant must have delicious Char Siew Pao and Egg Tart, Yoke Fook Moon never dissapointed us with their Char Siew Pao and Egg Tart.
Char Siew Pao dough is soft and fluffy, fill with Char siew fragrant. Egg Tart outer casing shortcrust pastry is crunchy fill with egg custard.

Muscle with Fish Ball (Left), Siew Mai (Top Right) and Har Kao (Bottom Right). Muscle with Fish Ball is something new which I never try in Penang before while Siew Mai and Har Kao is above average.

Some crispy stuff, overall taste good.

Siew Mai(Top Left), very thin skin and chop pork meat is soft and tasty.
Steamed Fish Ball (Top Right) is normal while bottom two Prawn Dumpling is as normal dumpling with fresh prawn inside.

Chee Cheong Fun, one of the representative for Dim Sum. Chee Cheong Fun wrap in Char Siew and Prawn, topping with fried shallots and sesame, and sambai on the side. Chee Cheong Fun is smooth and prawn is very Q but the sambai given is not enough, anyhow you may ask for more if you like it.

Fish Ball with Sweet Sauce(Top) and Normal Fish Ball (Bottom), both are almost the same type of fish ball just that the Top fish ball have some additional sweet sauce and seaweed, taste just normal.

Fried Prawn Roll(Top), Pork Dumpling(Bottom Left) and Prawn Dumpling(Bottom Right). Fried Prawn Roll is crispy with a lot of fresh prawn deep fried to perfection.
Pork Dumpling serve with vinegar which taste almost like Siew Long Pao just without the soup inside, while Prawn Dumpling is wrapped with thin tranparent steam rice skin.

Beef Ball, special order as they prepare only when you order which make this Beef Ball fresh and hot while served. Ginger and Vinegar provided to further enrich beef ball tastiness.

Receipt, slightly more expensive compare to Ming Court but value for money on the good food served

Overall, Yoke Fook Moon is the best Dim Sum we selected among “Dim Sum Street”.

Azuma Japanese Food Restaurant

First of all, I would like to thanks my peer JK Lee for taking such a nice photo, all photo shown below are fully own by JK Lee. He also my sifu for photographing.
Penang people really lucky to have Azuma Japanese Restaurant open in Queensbay Mall which offer fresh sashimi and delicious Japanese Food.


Kiwi drink with small umbrella and some other drink we ordered.


Chicken Teriyaki, Chicken fillet with sweet sauce.

Salmon Roll RM28, Tamago, Crab Meat and Cucumber wrapped with rice and top with Salmon.

Enoki Beef Maki RM18. Small bunch of Enoki mushroom wrapped with beef, recommended.

Grilled Lamb with vegetable, Lamb serve with special sweet sauce, tasty and even better if taken with rice.

Grilled Squid, super small portion just enough for few bites. It is very dry but tasty.

Ordered one plain vegetable to average out our Cholestrol level as we take a lot of meat.

Big plate of Shashimi, look at the Salmon texture one layer fat and one layer meat. Yummy! Scallop, Octopus, Prawn and Tuna are all superb fresh, I just change my though about Shashimi after taking all this.
Look at the Shashimi thikness, appreciate Chef generous.

Japanese Pizza RM28, special made rice base top with seafood. Something special to share about is the base rice which pan fried till crispy and taste even better than normal Italian pizza.

Grilled Seafood with Vegetable, Squid, Fish Meat and Prawn. The prawn cought our attention as it was very big and taste very fresh.

Something not on the menu, Salmon Belly. They mention to us that this piece of salmon belly just arrive in the morning and serve in Shashimi will be the best choice, give it a try and never regret.
Personaly I not really like Shashimi but this piece of fresh Salmon Belly Shashimi change my mind, it is so soft and fresh.

Another half of the Salmon Belly was use for grilled, it taste totally different with fresh Shashimi even though it still as tasty.
Grilled Salmon Belly is very oily in your mouth but the oily is different with pork or beed oily, Salmon Belly oily is very smooth and I really like it.

Tempura Prawn, Crunzy and perfect after deep into soup provided.

Overall Azuma Japanese Restaurant selling point is they provide fresh and delicious food but price is slightly higher.
