Restaurant Chaw Choon Dim Sum 超全茶楼 located at Raju Uda, one of the very famous dim sum restaurant in main land. I has been wanting to visit this restaurant for so long but sadly i never had the chance. Glad that finally i make a move and visit the famous restaurant. The restaurant very big, should be occupying 3 shop lot and it is so crowded.

High ceiling with lot of ceiling fans, it is very comfortable sitting inside.

Assorted dim sum for selection, people are queuing to get their favorite dim sum. Dim Sum are served hot and they keep sending out from kitchen while the deep fried item are store in heated glass pushing cart and customer can take easily.

Braised Duck Meat, believe the duck meat must be braised for long as it fully absorb the sauce flavor and the bone easily fall of from bone, it is so soft and delicious.

Abalone Siew Mai, extremely small size abalone, smaller than 10sen i think. Honestly you can’t even taste the abalone instead it just put there for presentation, the siew mai is flavorful and delicious.

Char Siew Pao, fluffy skin and the filling is generous and flavorful, i like it to have strong char siew flavor.

Braised Chicken Feet, instead of typical red sauce they use black sauce that normally you can find in wantan mee shop. It is deep fried the braised, taste normal.

Shark Fin Soup, we are very disappointed with this dish, it lack of flavor and the soup is too sticky as well.

My sister recommended this restaurant after her company annual dinner, she said the food is very delicious so we decided to give it a try. We drive all the way to Butterworth just for dinner, honestly it not that far, just 10 minutes drive after Penang Bridge. The restaurant is extremely big, occupied a few double storey shop lot.

Soy Sauce Prawn 鼓油干虾 RM40, big fresh prawn deep fried then cook with thicken soy sauce, it taste sauteed and sweet. Prawn is fresh and has great texture.

Eggplant Tofu 茄子豆腐 RM15, deep fried eggplant and tofu cook with pork mince, chili and ginger. Most of the people don’t like eggplant due to it mushy texture but here they deep fried it first so it doesn’t has the mushy texture, great.

Herbal Chicken Soup 黄汤鸡 RM30, we found this dish to be lack of flavor.

Curry Fish Head 咖哩鱼头 RM54, curry fish is always my favorite, they served quite a big fish head (half) and it is very fresh, I like the curry very much, it taste a little bit spicy, sour and sauteed.

Seafood Claypot 海参煲 RM80 consist of fish maw, sea cucumber and mushroom with assorted vegetable. Thicken sauce great to eat with steam rice and ingredients given is generous as well.

Ong Cheng Huat Seafood Restaurant must be familiar for everyone since it is so famous and we indeed blog before. The restaurant is now expanded and become cleaner compare to our first visit. Food served still the same which only limited to a few dishes but best thing is they maintain the great flavor but slightly more expensive now.

Stir Fried Mussels, this is a must order for us which taste even better than their signature steamed fish. Only one reason to order this dish, FRESH. It is extremely fresh and free of mug flavor or sand in it, the gravy full of natural sweetness and a hint of sourness making it a perfect dish.

Steamed Fish, they always has source for big and fresh fish where you can either ordered fish head or fish tail which both taste as good but for me i will definitely ordered fish head. The soup is so delicious that i wish they served rice, it must be very good to eat with rice.

Boiled Octopus, first time ordered this dish and pretty disappointing as it overcook. The octopus has become hard and chewy.

Deep Fried Marinated Spring Chicken is another must eat dish here. The chicken is perfectly marinated and deep fried to perfection. It remain juiciness and the meat is so succulent.

Fried Popiah Skin with Prawn, very crispy skin with small prawn in it. I did not expect the two layer of popiah so be so flavorful and it taste even better with Chili paste.

The restaurant is getting bigger and during our visit there is an area under renovation, not sure that is belong to them or not but definitely they are expanding and getting more business.

Richard’s Top Taste Cafe

Richard’s Top Taste Café located at somewhere that is pretty hard to find, the area is pretty silence at night and not much people around. The restaurant itself having quite good business and we do have high hope since we coming from island just to try it out, bought the 5 course meal Online Coupon for RM29.90, it certainly not cheap. We have a choice of either Steak, Chicken or Fish but since chicken finish hence we down with two option which is steak and fish only and that goes our order of the night.

Mushroom Soup with Garlic Bread, mushroom soup is pretty disappointed as it taste exactly the same as what you get out from the can mushroom soup while the garlic bread taste just normal.

Salad with Chicken Ham, curious to know why they emphasize on the chicken ham since it just merely two slice, luckily the vegetable and tomato is fresh.

Perch Fillets with Cheese Sauce, Pan-fried perch fish fillets with the combination of cheese, green pepper, young corn, serve with baked corn on top & mash potato.
It taste normal as the sauce doesn’t have strong flavor while the green pepper making it taste not so good, I believe it is very personal taste bud issue as we don’t like green pepper.

Country Style Strip Loin Steak, Grilled strip loin with chef’s special gravy, serve with jacket baked potato & baked corn on top.
The steak is rather disappointed, it has very chewy texture and the sauce doesn’t bring out the freshness of steak instead it has very isolated strong flavor which totally overlap the steak flavor.

Overall taste just normal, it is pretty hard to justify if I will to pay full amount, with 50% discount I believe it worth for me to buy the experience but if I will to pay full amount I will reluctant to step in, the food quality is not worth the value.

Claypot Curry Fish Head and Claypot Rice at Lekker Claypot House

Lekker Claypot House is best known for their Clay Pot, one of the very famous shop in Chai Leng Park.
Hot Clay Pot Rice tag with Hot Clay Pot Curry Fish Head is something new to me, always thought that both strong flavor dish should never tag along and I going to prove today either it a good combination or else.
The shop is open air and easily fit up to 20 table or more, parking is a big headache during peak hour.


Claypot rice is one of the traditional food where rice is cook using the clay made pot using charcoal but nowadays most of them are replace with gas. Rice cook with dark sauce, salted fish, chicken meat and mushroom, served together with the hot claypot to maintain the consistent heat. Some add egg on top of it and the egg can be added even after leaving the gas stove as the consistent heat from claypot is strong enough to cook the egg.
Portion below is for 2 persons, it came with two eggs, Chinese sausage and chicken meat.

As I said, the egg not necessary to be cook on the stove instead it can be cook with the consistent heat from claypot.

Mix together all the ingredient together with the egg, making the egg stick with the rice will make it taste even better.

Ordered additional Assam Prawn, prawn is fresh but the Assam is not thick enough, it would be better if they make the Assam sauce more sticky so that the prawn can has better flavor.

Curry Fish Head, the taste is curry powder taste instead of sour and spicy. It use a lot of curry powder and you can purchase the curry powder from them as well, the gravy is very thick and the portion is very big for two persons.

Stir Fried Vegetable

Come to the judgment, whether two strong flavor dish can tag along and create a wonderful flavor? Well, our answer is NO. It simple, because the curry is too strong and cover the claypot rice flavor.
Both of them are individually very tasty but when combine together, it just overlap each other and it actually a waste.
