Dee Mak Mookata Bukit Mertajam Penang

“Moo Kratha” doesn’t sound familiar to you? So do I as we always heard people saying Mookata instead, so what is “Moo Kratha”? Well, according to Wiki it is a type of Steamboat that originating from Chiang Mai that use charcoal to simultaneously grills and boil ingredients. In my memory BBQ Plaza should be the very first one to acquired this idea.
Dee Mak Mookata is a newly open restaurant located at Bukit Tengah, Bukit Mertajam. If you are coming from Juru, you need to turn left then go straight at make a u-turn and Dee Mak Mookata is just on your left.
Dee Mak Mookata

They offer Set Package for RM29.90 or RM59.90, if you prefer to choose your own ingredients then you may select the item accordingly.

Our drinks, two nutmeg, Kickapoo and longan.

Special home made dipping sauce, it look to be plain and boring but you will be surprise by how much oomph it carry. It is pretty spicy and sourish, extremely flavorful and great for grill meat.

Here come out hot pot, burning hot charcoal.
Charcoal Steamboat

We had tom yam soup which are one of their signature soup base which are boiled for long hour using vegetable and tom yam paste. If you prefer non spicy soup then you can order their pork bone soup.
Charcoal Steamboat

We had RM59.90 package and the portion is much bigger than we expect.

Three plate of slice meat (Chicken and Pork) is definitely the highlight of the night, it is nicely marinated to flavor and extremely delicious. Understand from the owner that they bought the chicken fresh from market and marinate immediately, if the meat is not sold within 2 day then they will throw it away to maintain freshness.

Overall ingredients are fresh and we really enjoy drinking the soup, it is not too spicy or sour instead it is just nice in flavor, after cooking with all the ingredients it become rich in flavor. We don’t feel thirsty after eating as well.

Udon seem like to better combination than instant noodle since it can be cook for longer and has very smooth texture.

Slice Meat, if you notice that the meat look extremely fresh and thickness is completely different from other shabu-shabu restaurant. They get the meat fresh from market daily and slice manually instead of machine cut, it has much better texture and flavor.

Deep Fried Fish Meat, thin crispy fish meat with a little bit of sauteed taste is just awesome, dipping with the tomyam sauce or home made dipping sauce is just perfect.

Second round? Yes, we just want to try out their Pork Bone Soup hence we add on some ingredients and request to change soup. Clear soup taste as good as the tomyam but if you are as crazy as us to have 2 round, i would recommended to try Pork Bone Soup first then Tom Yam soup.

Ayam Goreng, deep fried chicken is just normal, it should have marinated the chicken for longer period to get more flavor into it.

Nasi Briyani Kambing Grill RM23.70, Grilled Lamb with Nasi Briyani, the grilled lamb is very disappointed as the meat is extremely chewy and dry, it doesn’t has much flavor as well.

Che Go Korean BBQ Restaurant

Che Go Korean BBQ Restaurant located at AEON Seberang Perai where we always have our sweet time enjoying Wednesday cheap ticket RM5 at TGV Cinema, but since we move back to Penang Island so we no longer go there. Never know this restaurant until my sister share with me that she has a good dining experience and wish to brought us there.

Che Go Korean BBQ Restaurant is nicely decorated and spaces, special made table with small grill in between and cooker hood hide underneath table which suck oily smoke out. Korean style design with hanging lantern on top as decoration light and look through window, give a great feeling to have my dinner inside.

Bukit Mertajam Rojak Orang Putih Hitam

Rojak is a bowl of fruit and vegetable mix together with prawn paste is commonly found anywhere in Penang and the famous Rojak in Penang is no doubt the tree stalls in Bukit Mertajam, within a T-Junction there is tree stalls and three of them has almost the same name, White, Black and White Black Rojak it really a competitive market in BM for Rojak.
Photobucket

We selected Rojak Orang Hitam Putih黑白人, the reason because reviews across the net mention this is the best and biggest portion compare to the other two.
Ordered the smallest portion which cost RM3 but we will really surprise by the ingredients given and portion served, even for RM3 they did give cuttlefish and whole lot of fruit and vegetable such as cucumber, pineapple, mangoes, turnip..etc. Dressing is definitely the famous Hae Ko (Shrimp Paste) and top with peanut, fruit is fresh but the Hae Ko is rather disappointed as the main character for a good Rojak is definitely the delicious Hae Ko but this stall Hae Ko is not the type of Hae Ko that has strong flavor.
Photobucket

The shop is small and operates by an aunty, beside the stall is Poh Piah which we don’t get a chance to try because it was sold out. It must be very delicious because during the dining time of 15minute we can see a lot people come and ordered.
Photobucket

Overall the portion is big and well worth the money but not the Hae Ko, next visit going to try the Hai Ren Rojak.
