Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert Prangin Mall [CLOSED]

Heard of Fry Yogurt before? Well, there is a new dessert kiosk open in Prangin Mall where they fry yogurt with assorted fresh fruits. The idea is actually coming from our neighbor country Thailand where they fry yogurt instead of ice cream.
Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert is actually serving fry yogurt or ice vanilla with waffle, they are as well the only one in Penang now to offer such dessert.

The making of Fry Yogurt is actually same step as Fry Ice Cream just different ingredients, at first they put in the yogurt into extremely cold pan then putting in some fresh fruit and mix them together, mix it to perfection then flatten it and roll it up. Pretty simple!

There is two version either Fry Ice Yogurt or Fry Ice Vanilla which we found that Fry Ice Yogurt taste better as it has sour taste while the Fry Ice Vanilla seem to be normal as it only has sweet taste with mild vanilla flavor.
You can choose to have Kiwi, Strawberry, Mango, Dragon Fruit, Banana or Original flavor, we highly recommended Mango flavor as it has the best flavor compare to other and it mix well with both Yogurt and Vanilla.

Dragon Fruit Yogurt Ice Blended rm8.50 is very refreshing and the mixture of sour taste yogurt with sweet dragon fruits goes very well.

International Buffet and Moon Cake Review at Eastin Hotel

Looking for a buffet that consist round the world delicacy? Heading to Eastin Hotel for it September International Buffet which consists of Indian Food, Italian Food, Nyonya Food, Japanese Food, Mediterranean Food…etc, I am sure you will find some great food there. On top of that Eastin Hotel has made their own Mooncake with their secret recipe for an affordable price as well, I will share with you at the bottom of this article.

Start our buffet with Thai healthy starter Thai Miang Kham, my all time favorite where dried shrimp, lemon, peanut, chili, fried coconut, ginger and onions mix together with sweet sauce and Kaduk Leaf. I use to enjoy Miang Kham at Khun De Thai Restaurant but sadly this Thai delicacy is no longer in their menu. Luckily I got the chance to eat it in Eastin Hotel, i truly enjoy eating the combination of fresh ingredients together with the sweet sauce, it taste sweet and sauteed with crunchy texture.

Another starter we have is German Potato Salad.

Follow by Classical Italian Creamy Tomato Soup which is extremely rich in flavor, well i should say it too rich and taste too sour for me but i still manage to finish a small bowl of it, i believe it will form a great combination with loaf.

Japanese Teriyaki Chicken is juicy and tender soft but the Teriyaki sauce slightly too sweet and lack of saltiness hence making it feel like lacking of something.

Mediterranean Seafood Soup-Bouillabaisse with Baguette and Aioli, you must have not heard of Aioli sauce before right? Same here. Aiolo is actually a sauce made from Garlic, Olive Oil and Lemon Juice which taste sour and creamy, best to go with Baguette. While the Seafood soup contains of assorted seafood such as Fish, Prawn, Muscle and Squid which taste slightly fishy but acceptable.

French Lamb Stew A-la Mode, some people complain about lamb gamey taste but i think without the gamey taste it not lamb anymore. The French Lamb Stew i expect it to has strong Lamb gamey taste but i was wrong, they completely remove that taste which might make someone happy but not for me, i find it lack of something and the meat is slightly dry as well.

Indian Chicken Masala with Potato is one of my favorite dish here, chicken is deep fried to perfection then cook with Indian Masala sauce which taste awesome.

Chinese Lotus Leaf Wrapped Fried Rice is pretty delicious though, it has the lotus leaf fragrance while the dried shrimp help to boost it flavor very much.

Let get into the earlier mention Mooncake, there is 6 flavors in total namely Red Bean RM17, Jasmine Cheesy Citrus RM18, Low Sugar White Lotus RM18, Precious Black Wolfberry Lotus Paste RM18, Pure Lotus Double Yolk RM20 and Supreme Mixed Nuts RM20.

Overall Mooncake taste very fresh and not too sweet, the best I had is Jasmine Cheesy Citrus which sound quite complicated with assorted flavor combine together but indeed it form a great taste and something unique. I bet you came across this taste before, give it a try and let us know whether it good or not. Mooncake is available at Hotel Lobby daily until 19 September 2013.

Paella Cookout at Agua Straits Quay

We are glad to be invited to attend Paella Cookout at Agua Restaurant located in Straits Quay, when we first heard of Paella rice we are shock as we know that not many restaurants in Penang serving this dish and our previous experience was not that good at Rendezvous last years but we are hoping Agua Restaurant can create some magic on Paella they served that make us change our mind. Let read on…

Agua Restaurant specialize in Mediterranean cuisine “which comes from the 21 countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea such as Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, and various countries on the Mediterranean. The food consists primarily of fresh fruits and vegetables with an emphasis on poultry and seafood, rice, grains, beans and pastas. Grilling or broiling is the prevalent method of cooking, with olive oil the most prevalent fat or oil used in the preparation of salads, marinades, vegetables, poultry and seafood. Eggplant, artichokes, squash, tomatoes, legumes, onions, mushrooms, okra, cucumbers, and a variety of greens are served fresh, baked, roasted, sautéed, grilled and puréed. Yogurt and cheese are also major components of Mediterranean cooking.”

Focus today will be Paella, “which is a Valencian rice dish that originated in its modern form in the mid-19th century near lake Albufera, a lagoon in Valencia, on the east coast of Spain.[1] Many non-Spaniards view paella as Spain’s national dish, but most Spaniards consider it to be a regional Valencian dish. Valencians, in turn, regard paella as one of their identifying symbols.?

Preparation for Paella Cookout, olive oil, rice, seafood, herbs, spices, vegetable…etc are ready upfront.

In Paella, the most important flavor is definitely coming from Saffron which is the most expensive spice available and small box like picture below cost RM900.

Start cooking the Paella with flat rounded pan which called as paellera.

Lot of broth use to cook and let it absorb for sometime before serving to customer.

Prawn and mussel added at the last stage to ensure it not overcook.

Full house during our visit and everyone is waiting for their Paella to be served.

Paysanne Salad is served while waiting for Paella to be ready, thin slice of carrot, corn, tomato, avocado…etc mixed with olive oil.
Fresh vegetable/fruit combination with olive oil is something new to me as we always use mayonnaise as dressing instead of olive oil, it has better texture and much more healthy as well.

Finally our Paella is ready to be served, the color is awesome and the strong flavor is covering the whole restaurant.
We have here is Chicken Paella and Seafood Paella

We have both flavor of Paella serve in our plate with a cup of Sangria. Sangria is fruit-based wine which taste toward sweetness and easy to drink, you can easily drink a few cups without realizing it but the power will come in sudden and make you drunk.
Paella itself has very strong flavor and the rice is not mushy at all which come to a surprise, a small pinch of Saffron making the whole paella taste so different, I can’t find a word to describe how it smell like instead it very long lasting smell and it definitely a must in Paella.
seafood Paella get our vote as it has better flavor.

Arabic Cuisine at Rendezvous for Paella Rice

Rendezvous serving authentic Arabic and Mediterranean cuisine and with RM39 we got a deal from Qmurate on 5 course meal with original price of RM87. We been told Paella Rice is big enough to serve two person hence RM39 is a great deal then but it seem like not that case, we going to share with you in a short while.

Apple Salad served in a nice small shaped cup, apple cut into small pieces mix with mayonnaise and additional tomato on top for great presentation. No doubt the sweet and sour apple is very appetite and refreshing.

Fresh Cream of Mushroom Soup, various type of wild mushroom cut into small pieces and cook together to create a flavorful dishes. It doesn’t take like normal mushroom soup that taste toward can mushroom soup instead it has own natural mushroom flavor. Good tasting dish.

Paella Rice is their signature dish, quote to be sufficient for two persons but in actual fact it is quite a small plate, it came with two big white prawn and few muscle.
Seafood Paella is a heavy season food with different type of spice, it taste a little bit sour and savory.

Hamuss & Arab Bread, blended chickpeas with olive oil and tahinia cream, once of the most famous dips. The Hamuss taste like sesame with strong olive oil, Arab Bread is like flat bread which doesn’t have any flavor, dipping the Arab Bread into the Hamuss and it give the sesame and olive oil flavor. This is a middle eastern food and I believe not much local people appreciate it even our self but it definitely a good try. Did search some keyword and I believe this help you to have better understanding of the dish.
Chickpea is a type of bean that normally you can found it at roti canai dipping sauce “dhal”, Chickpea is high in protein and healthy.
Tahinia or known as Tahini is a paste of ground sesame seeds used in cooking

Ice Cream of the day is rather disappointing as we expect some special homemade middle east dessert such as Keleij, Sfouf, Mafruka or Umm Ali, which can really demonstrated a Arabic restaurant.

Rendezvous is a very high class restaurant and definitely a place for unique Arabic food, it a fresh sense of taste.
