Ramadhan 2016 Buffet at Eastern & Oriental Penang

When it come buffet Eastern & Oriental Hotel Sarkies always our first choice, during the Ramadhan Month 2016 buffet (6 June – 5th July 2016) price at RM133 nett for adult and RM60.95 nett for child. The buffet served with signature dishes such as roasted whole lamb, snow crab on ice and many other great dishes. As usual we are surprise by the great variety offer throughout the buffet line and during Ramadhan month they even extend the buffet to have more item such as traditional kuih, somtam, satay, grilled whole lamb, teh Tarik…etc. It is certainly interesting to dine in E&O buffet.

Make it local by add in sambal instead of typical dressing, Thousand Island, Mayonnaise is boring. Sambal that is signature sauce that added to local salad which taste extremely spicy but trust me, it is very addictive.

If you are duck lover like I do then you must not miss the Roasted Duck, it is one of the best roasted duck I have among the many Hotel buffet I had, it is even comparable to road side hawker stall. Duck meat is perfectly marinated to flavor and roasted to flavor, meat is juicy and flavorful. If you are not into duck then try the roasted chicken or roasted beef.

Smoked Duck Salad RM25, I am in love with chef presentation on salad, it is a piece of art. Great combination of various fresh vegetable with cheese, orange and red wine. Smoke duck are nicely done to flavor and texture.

Braised Pork Cheek with Red Wine RM38, tender pork cheek nicely cook with red wine that fully absorb wine sweetness and it is so tender. Serving with oyster mushroom, onion and asparagus.

Lobster Ravioli in Crab Bisque RM65, creamy and rich flavor crab bisque served with lobster ravioli. Although the portion is rather small but the taste worth the value. It is so rich in flavor, full of crab freshness taste and lobster meat are nicely done to texture as well.

Roast New Zealand Lamb Saddle of Loin RM98, juicy lamb meat served with ratatouille, potato and green pea puree. A small cut of lamb with ratatouille create the best combination of flavor.

Braised Australian Beef Brisket RM68, chef surprise us with what we think about beef, completely different from our expectation. The big chunk of beef brisket is nicely marinated and braised to flavor, it is so smooth in texture and full of flavor. The onion chip not only look awesome instead it taste great, a little bit of bitter and sweet taste.

Sous Vide Flavourful Herb Chicken RM30, two pieces of chicken thigh grilled to perfection, season with rosemary herbs which are pretty strong in flavor.

Seared Artisanal Smoked Salmon RM58, such a mystery dish. Served with a glass dome that covering the dish with “smoke”, immediately after open up the dish we smell very strong smoke flavor and witness the awesome Salmon presentation. Served with caramelized apple, zucchini and onion pickle. Bottom are fill with mash potato and dressing with vanilla foam.

Raspberry Mousse Cake with Fruit RM28, raspberry sauce with sweet mousse cake will never go wrong, it is very soft and smooth, not too sweet as well. The caramelized walnut surprise us, never know that walnut can be so tasty.

Thanks Chef, bigger piece please…one more…one more…! The turkey is so delicious, juicy and flavorful. Nicely marinated to flavor and the sweet and sauteed sauce goes well with it.

Spanish Butter Rice with Nut, instead of local rice they use long grain rice which has slightly harder texture but it was nicely done to flavor and texture,

Walnut Apple Salad, very appetizing salad which taste sweet and sourish from green apple while crunchy texture from walnut making it balanced in taste and texture.

Chicken Roulade with Pomegranate Sauce, chicken drumpstick marinated with pomegranate sauce which taste sweet with a little bit sourish then grilled to perfection and top with additional pomegranate sauce.

Poached Seabass with Saffron Sauce, steamed thick cut seabass and top with saffron sauce. Personally i found the fish to have a little bit of fishy taste but the unique flavor of saffron sauce work the magic to make it taste good.

My all time Christmas dessert are definitely the nicely decorated Christmas Log. It is always so cute and perfect for photo shooting. The cake is extremely fluffy and not too sweet.

RM14++ Only Semi Buffet at Saffron Restaurant Prangin Mall

Saffron restaurant located at basement of Prangin Mall, same floor with Chateau 33, Imperial Chinese Cuisine and Pizzaiola. We have previously visited Saffron during 2015 Valentine and have really good impression with their food, service and environment. Although we don’t get much choices during Valentine Day but we are happy with the food served and price tag. Saffron Restaurant are now serving Semi Buffet with any main dish order and the good news is……main dish starting from RM14 ONLY.

We are greeted by big handsome gentleman…..Transformer (made in Saffon?…LOL).

Step into the restaurant make me feel comfortable with proper lighting and nice decoration, semi buffet item are placed near to entrance with coffee and dessert counter, great coffee aroma surrounding the restaurant making fresh feeling.

We have blog about 1st Avenue Cafe & Bakery Fair last month and talk about Saffron coffee, we all know that Saffron serve great coffee and for sure we need a few more coffee this round. We order Piccolo Latte and Cafe Latte, really enjoy the great flavor.

Grilled Platter RM24 consist of Potato, Squid, Prawn, Nachos and Chicken Wings. Nice food presentation with the use of pizza board, it make the food look so appetizing. Squid and Prawn are nicely deep fried to crispy texture and chicken wing are nicely marinated to flavor.

Seafood Pesto Pasta RM20, with the option of Linguine, Penne or Spaghetti cook with Pesto sauce together with Prawn, Muscle and Squid. Pesto sauce consist of garlic, basil, olive oil, parmesan cheese and fiore sardo, it has very strong basil taste with a little bit milky flavor in it.

Seafood Aglio Olio Pasta RM20, we decided to pair seafood Aglio Olio with Linguine as the thin Linguine able to stick olive oil, garlic and chili flake better to create a good flavor pasta.

BBQ Chicken RM19, nicely marinated chicken drum stick grill to crispy skin and served with a bucket of fries and stir fried vegetable with mushroom. Chicken is flavorful especially taking with crispy skin which has sauteed taste and together with BBQ sauce it taste even better.

Norway Salmon RM29, pan grilled Salmon served with creamy butter sauce on top, together with stir fried vegetable and mash potato. Personally I feel the salmon to be a little bit small, instead of cutting into two pieces I would prefer it to be one big slice to better contain the moist in Salmon meat.

Saffron Creamy Fillet RM29, pan fried fish fillet served with sweet and sour sauce and served with mash potato and stir fried vegetable.

Rib Eye Steak RM42, two slice of steak pan fried and top with special black sauce, served with stir fried vegetable. Steak is slightly overcook to dry texture but the sauce taste pretty good.

Lamb Shank RM29, big chunks of Lamb Shank served with asparagus and stir fried vegetable. I really can’t believe such big portion of Lamb Shank only cost RM29, it must be the best value item in the menu. Lamb Shank is nicely braised for long hour to create the soft texture and flavorful meat.

Overall we are very impress with the dishes served in Saffron, good value semi buffet that can easily fill up your stomach.
