Carl’s Jr Mushroom Burger

Carl’s Jr is one of the very famous Burger Fast Food in KL, as usual Penang also slow on emerge market compare to KL good example is Burger King which just enter Penang market few months back so while waiting for it to be in Penang, I pay a visit to it first in KL. Carl’s Jr located in ground floor of One Utama, one of the big shopping complex in KL, Damansara.

Counter to place your order and free flow soft drink counter just next to it, surprisingly not much crowd during our visit. Is it usual due to the high price? First screen of the price and we kind of get shock because it was pretty expensive.

Ordered “The Portobello Mushroom Burger Combo” which cost RM24.30, price is rather expensive and I must admit that this is the most expensive burger I ate so far in my life. The combo set come with a Natural-Cut Fries and Free Flow Soft Drink, fries is something that I like a lot because it was freshly cut from potato together with the skin deep fried to golden color, potato skin enhance the flavor very much.

Burger itself is quite big and the proper wrapping to ensure customer hand clean is excellent, it not like McD that simply wrap it.

Mushroom Burger must has a lot of fantastic mushroom inside, without disappointment to us the Portobello mushroom is flavorful and a lot together with the charbroiled black angus beef patty is so delicious.

Overall we are pretty impressive with the Mushroom Burger that we had, portion is big and using mushroom to form a burger is really a great creativity which created a new era for Burger.

Yut Kee Famous Roast Pork

Yut Kee is so famous and been around for almost a decade, it crowded every now and then, famous for its Roasted Pork and Roti Babi.
Parking space is quite limited in that area, you may drive down further and there is a small parking space on your left.

Signature dish, Roasted pork served only on Fridays and Sundays from 11.00am till it’s sold out

Cup are showing antique look which demonstrating the age of the shop.

A single portion RM10 has only two thin slice of roasted pork, the skin crunchy, meat tender and succulent. I not really appreciate the apple sauce as I feel it taste too strong and overlap the tastiness of roasted pork.

The meat used very little fat while pork skin’s crunchiness that makes crackling sound.

Fried Mee was not really impress us and it not delicious as well.

I did read some blog about their Homemade Kaya Roll RM0.80/pcs but it was a big disappointment, hard, dry and limited kaya.

We miss out the Roti Babi, definetely will try it out on next visit.

If to rate the roasted pork alone it would be 5 stars but overall it would be only 3 star.

Japanese Food Buffet at Munakata

It was sometime back when I have my last buffet and this round visit to KL I going to try Munakata(宗像) Japanese Restaurant which located in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
Munakata served unlimited ala carte Japanese buffet, the way they operate is exactly the same as TAO Cuisine which you ordered and they prepare.
It was a great idea as the food serve will be hot and fresh.
RM60+ for an adult and RM35+ for child from 4 – 10 years old, consider cheap compare to other Japanese buffet which normally charge around RM100.

Each table are ready with an ala carte menu with description and photo, write down the code and hand over to waitress.
You place ordered and wait for chef to get it ready for you, quite slow during peak hour but worth the wait.
It was hard for me to explain all food we ordered as we almost finish the whole menu, which come to a total of 40 dishes.
I will give a few highlights and the rest will briefly go through so that you have a rough idea of what they serve and how value RM60 for the Japanese Buffet.

I would like to highlight few items which are
Umaki Tamago, Grilled eel wrapped in Tamago. Eel is fresh and Tamago is cold, it was delicious.
Shishamo, Grilled smelt fish.
Unagi Kabayaki, Grilled eel coated with sweet soya sauce. If you are Unagi lover, you can ordered as much as you can and probably you are eating more than RM60 just for Unagi. Right? I like the sweet sauce and Unagi is fresh.
Beef Steak, beef is tender soft with the sauce it was perfect.

Other dish are Chawan Mushi, Deep fried seafood bean-curb with seaweed, Boiled Green Peas, Grilled Spinach with butter, Fried Mix Vegetable, Pan-fry mushroom, Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab, Grilled Scallop, Grilled Salmon, Seafood Tepanyaki, Deep Fried Glass Shrimp, Deep Fried Squid, Barbecued Skewered Chicken, Salad, Fried What Noodle, Fried Rice, Fresh Fruit..etc

Salmon Sashimi, generous thick cut and freshness is the key to delicious Sashimi. Picture tell the texture of Salmon fat, buttery, fatty and just plain delicious.
Again, seriously you can order as much as you can finish, no joke! Hurray!

Fresh Fruit to help digest.

Last served was the delicious Green Tea Ice-cream top with Red Bean.

Make sure you finish all your ordered as RM10 will be charge for every dish that is unfinished.

Roasted Suckling Pig at El Cerdo KL

El Cerdo, Nose to Tail eating. “El Cerdo”, meaning “The Pig”. Visited this restaurant after my training in KL, it was highly recommended by local people and was name the best suckling pig so I should not miss it right?
Follow my lovely GPS, navigate through some small road and finally reach. Problem to look for parking space as this area is really crowded with a lot other restaurant, finally found 1 parking area and per entrance fees is RM15. WAU!

While waiting for our food, we will attractted by noisy plate smashing but have no idea what is that all about.
Ordered Beer and another Alcoholic Drink which lemonade taste.

Appetizer served, Marinated Jelly Pork is tasty and special.

Soup taste like Bah Kut Teh? Not really as it without that much of herbs instead replace with some vegetable.

Star of the day, Roasted Suckling Pig, pratically every table ordered this.
Captain approach us with a plate in his hand, asking who want to be next lucky guy and my lovely refuse so I have to do it.
Captain share with us the story behind and guide me through the process, few chops on the suckling pig and throw the plate into one wooden box, whoever did that will have luck next.
After the whole process, captain brought back to the kitchen and the chef make a few more cut before it served.

Together with the Suckling Pig, Salad and Fried Potato is served.

Close up to the Suckling Pig, it skin is crispy and thin while a layer of fat before the juicy meat makes every bite.

Werner’s Special, which suppose to be one big cup but they help to split into two cup. Strawberry Ice Cream is pure and tasty together with Chocolate mousse and wild raspberry sherbet in between before mango sauce. Recommended.

Well, El Cerdo is serving the best suckling pig I have tried and few other dishes look interesting as well, definetely will visit again but the price is very high. Overall cost RM250+ for this dinner.

Baby Back Ribs at Tony Roma’s Mid Valley

Tony Roma’s pretty famous in KL but too bad it doesn’t have branch in Penang. Hopefully they will open one in Penang soon.

Our drink

Start with complimentary bread and butter.

Tony’s Sampler RM39.90, A trio of appetizers - Red Hot Buffalo Wings and signature Onion Loaf matched with Bleu cheese dressing, salsa, sour cream and house BBQ dipping sauce.

Onion Loaf is very big portion, and surprisingly the onion is crunchy and juicy, the thickness of onion almost 5mm. Buffalo Wings is spicy and salty, not so nice.

The Original Baby Back Ribs RM60.90, Basted with TR’s Original or your choice of sauce.
It look small but the meat make you total full, unfortunately in Malaysia they don’t serve pork instead replace with beef.
Beef ribs grill with TR original sauce, sweet sauce and the beef ribs is very tender
According to my friend, in Singapore they server pork ribs, which sound more attractive.

Spaghetti portion RM31.90 is too big, we only manage to finish half of it.

Overall recommended restaurant, always remember to order less as the portion is way too big even I have big stomach also can’t finish.
