Claypot Restaurant at Tanjung Bungah

Here we are at Claypot Restaurant again, our last visit was last year and I still remember some of their great dishes. Together with Jazz we are invited to sample their clay pot dish again.

Total of six different clay pots served to our table and that is just four of us, which mean we going to eat a lot today.

Claypot restaurant is located at housing area in Tanjung Bungah, the location is very hidden that pretty hard to find, easiest way to identify the restaurant is by looking at the big banner. The restaurant is air-conditioner and operated during lunch and dinner only.

Fresh Apple Juice RM3.50
Loh Han Guo with Chrysanthemum RM2.50, Loh Han Guo(Fructus Momordicae) flavor that remain in my palate for some time.
Shan Cha with Apple RM2.50, Shan Cha (Hawthorn Berry) is one of the best drink in this restaurant, it is very refreshing and help to increase your appetite.

Claypot Petai, Kacang Botol & Lady Finger with Sambal RM10三大美人, one of the most recommended dish and we all agree that this dish is the champion as it has the richest flavor and the combination of various vegetable is just awesome.

Claypot Red Bean Curb Pork RM8南乳猪肉煲, fermented red bean is use to cook with pork meat, pork meat is soft while the strong red bean curb making it taste good.

Claypot Vinegal Pork RM8 三味猪手煲, vinegar pork is one of my favorite dish as my mum are the expert on cooking this, the taste of vinegar Pork served here is rather different from what my mum use to cook, my mum tend to use more vinegar and taste more sourly while the vinegar pork here taste less sourly but it indeed still a very rich flavor dish and the pork meat is extremely soft.

Claypot Brinjal with Pork Minced RM8茄子肉碎煲, Brinjal is nicely cook until very soft but not mushy instead the present of pork minced making it taste even better.

Claypot Herbal Chicken RM10 当归鸡煲, I expecting much more stronger herbal chicken taste as “tang gui” tends to create very rich flavor instead the herbal flavor is missing from this dish.

Claypot Ginger Chicken RM8子姜鸡煲, you will love this dish if you are ginger lover as lot of young ginger is use to cook this dishes.

Feringhi Grill At Shangri-La

After our buffet dine at Spice Market Cafe at Shangri-La few weeks back, we decided to go Feringgi Grill for my birthday dinner. We read a lot good review before finalized our decision as the price tag will definitely burn a hole in my pocket but if the food is top quality, I will really appreciate it.

Feringhi Grill Tasting Set cost RM165, which gave the best from the Feringhi Grill restaurant.

San Pellegrino RM20, San Pellegrino is a location where carbonated mineral water is produced. Complimentary bread with olive oil, bread must deep inside toward the black color olive oil which gave some sour taste.

Amuse-bouche is a single bite-sized that prepare by chef without ordered place by patrons, it purely based on chef selection. Served as a little tingle for taste buds both to prepare guest for the meal and to offer a glimpse into the chef approach to cooking. We had here is chicken meat with pickle on top, it given a refreshing taste which get us ready for the meal.

Starter

Scallop which is nicely cook, texture is very different from others as well. Normally I had scallop which taste almost like fish paste but this give a fine texture and sweetness, together with the sauce is very delicious.

Five Spice Quail RM32, a great use of spice to create a simple look but complicated flavor, great use of various spices to lift the freshness and authentic flavor of quail serve together with mushroom and fungi.

Sherbet served after starter to clean our palate before tasting entrée.

Australian Beef Ribeye 300g Grill Steak RM120, the manner of preparing the steaks for the grill make the difference in quality when they come off the grill. I put my trust to the chef by asking him prepare the best he could doesn’t matter what the cook level, he decided to go for medium rare and he prove to me his skill by how a medium rare steak can be so different from what I ate over the past 20+ years.
The grill steak served with a sauce but do you still need a sauce when the original flavor is already the best?
Normally a medium rare steak will has some bloody meat in middle but what I had here is pinky and outer part is just perfectly cook, steak is extremely tender and light bite can tear the meat out.

My entrée serve with Cauliflower Baked Cheese, it is simple but rich in flavor. Cauliflower is crunchy while the cheese flavor is not too strong to overlap the freshness of cauliflower.

Lamb Loin, loin include the ribs between forequarter and hindquarter which always consider as the best part and the most tender. Lamb loin is well cook with rich flavor of puree at bottom and various nuts on top.

Dessert is wildberry with ice cream.

If you have few hundred bucks to spend, here is the right place for top quality meal. If you are wine lover, here you can find huge range of wine as well.

Penang has so many Dim Sum, it just like every corner has a couple of restaurant serving Dim Sum and even Hotel are doing Dim Sum promotion, we receive a couple of forward mail reviewing new Dim Sum restaurant in Tanjung Bungah, the restaurant name is Viva Dim Sum and the picture really attractive.

I have to admit that I am so lucky to be stay in Penang where every now and then there is a new restaurant open and serving delicious food.
Let share a little bit of the restaurant environment, there is quite a lot of parking space inside or outside and a lot of table inside the restaurant but the serving of Dim Sum is so unorganized, definitely because it a new shop and they might not expect the crowd, people are queuing long under hot sun and not getting food, myself don’t get much variety as well.

Back to food review, Chee Cheong Fun, rice noodle roll filling with prawn and char siew with chili paste on the side. Chee Cheong Fun is tasty and soft while the Chili Paste is so delicious and further enhance the overall flavor.

Tofu Skin Roll, Tofu Skin was used to wrapped whole shrimp inside then deep fried to golden color, Tofu Skin is crispy and prawn is tender soft.

Chai Tao Kueh taste just normal.

Bitter God, Chili and Eggplant fill with fish paste, the amount of fish paste is a lot and the overall taste good.

Phoenix Talons, Chicken Feet marinated with sweet sauce and taste just right.

Xiao Long Pao or we call it ShangHai Steamed Buns, dumpling fill with pork meat and rich broth inside. Best to take with ginger, it taste just normal as we found the skin is a bit thick.

Liu Sha Pao, bun fill inside with butter cream and salted egg york, this really impress us and the melting cream is so tasty that we take two of this.

Jin Tui taste just normal and it a little bit small.

Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling, skin is thin and crispy while prawn inside is tender soft.

Char Siew Pao, the signature dish for a Dim Sum restaurant is how good you can make you Char Siew Pao. They did a great job on the fluffy skin with nice char siew inside.

Siew Mai, another signature dish for Dim Sum restaurant, again they did a good job to served delicious Siew Mai which is nicely done.

Fish ball, just normal nothing special.

Crispy Tofu Skin with Fish Paste and Shrimp, the sauce that make this dish delicious.

Pai Kuat, Pork Rib is tender and nice.

Overall RM75.20 for above and tea for 6 persons, food is nice and delicious but they need to be more organize instead of letting your customer queuing under hot sun waiting for their dim sum.

Salmon Shasimi is very fresh while tempura is crispy, both is very fresh and delicious.

Same set, photo taken from another angle where a big piece of Unagi is presented with Tamago on side, Unagi is delicious with the Japanese sweet sauce.

Another view from the same set, where all the Sushi located. It has 5 type of Sushi, 4 are good but the silver fish sushi is terrible, very heavy fishy smell which is not pleasant in mouth.
