Claypot Glass Noodle Crab at Rasa Lain Restaurant Ipoh

Restoran Rasa Lain or directly translated as Different Taste is a very popular seafood restaurant in Ipoh, lot of traveler purposely drive into Bercham, Ipoh just to enjoy the mouth watering seafood. We visited on 2010 and write a review here , in our previous review we write out how good their food is and how much we love it. Since we are travelling to Cameron Highland again hence we stop by to enjoy the mouth watering seafood again and for sure as a food blogger we enjoy sharing with everyone.

Claypot Glass Noodle Crab RM66, a huge clay pot with 2 crabs cook with glass noodle to served a table of 5 persons. The soup is awesomely delicious with a hint of wine and seafood freshness while the crab meat is very firm and fresh, glass noodle fully absorbing the tasty soup while maintaining it springy texture. No wonder everyone recommended this dish as a must try dish, it really awesome and even the big clay pot just doesn’t enough to satisfy us, we are asking for more.

Lemon Steamed Lala RM20, one side of clam shell is taken off and clam meat is nicely facing up garnish with ginger, spring onion and chili. Clam steamed with Lemon sauce and broth, acidity from lemon further leveling the taste of freshness while making it taste even better but slightly overcook shrinking the clam a little bit.

Fish Porridge RM20, another big clay pot served to our table where nothing can be seen from the top but when scooping up the ingredient inside that will for sure surprise you by how much fish meat it contain. Huge amount of fish meat without fish bone is place inside this clay pot to cook with porridge, the broth is so delicious while the fish meat is extremely fresh. The broth is slightly different from the Glass Noodle Crab, for this fish porridge the soup has natural seafood freshness while the Glass Noodle Crab broth taste more peppery.

Another Signature Dish is their Steamed Fish Ball RM1.10 each. The size of fish ball is bigger than ordinary fish ball while the texture is bouncy, it doesn’t have any fishy smell instead it has very fresh fish taste. Very simple cooking method, just steamed and top with soy sauce and spring onion, it simple yet delicious.

Claypot Cheese Prawn RM44, for the price charge it is really well worth even not consider the taste but after tasting the cheese prawn for sure you will screw out loud “Yes” because the combination of cheese and mayonnaise is awesomely good. Slight burn on the clay pot giving burn aroma to the cheese fragrance prawn, the prawn is big in size and fresh. Suckling the cheese from the prawn shell can fully taste the sautéed and sour cheese taste then taken off the shell can taste the natural sweetness of prawn.

Which Dim Sum Restaurant To Go in Ipoh

We just visit Foh San last month but no review was done, within a month time we return again and this time we want to share with you why we always choose Foh San instead of Yoke Fook Moon and Ming Court .

Let start with the environment, Foh San is spaces and two storey restaurant while the others is just small and very pack. Table layout in Foh San as well more spaces and less table sharing needed, but sometime it still hard to look for table especially during school holiday or public holiday.
Foh San Dim Sum Ipoh

Cleanliness wise they did very well also, at least I don’t see dirty floor and utensil. They have advantage over other due to the new building, which has floor tile and bright lighting.

Talk about food variety and quality, I believe there is no comparison needed if you even been to all three Dim Sum restaurant. Foh San offer the most choice and our tongue tell that most of the Dim Sum taste good and fresh.

Ipoh Foh San Dim Sum富山茶楼

Finally we got a chance to complete our review for Ipoh Dim Sum Street, Yoke Fook Moon and Ming Court and now Foh San Dim Sum富山茶楼. In a short distance road there is three big player content for best Dim Sum and finally we can make our final judgment on which is the best.
Foh San is no doubt the most popular and the biggest restaurant after they migrate to new two story building shop lot.
Tea pot set is new and clean.

Chili paste use in Ipoh is different from Penang, where Penang Chili paste use to be sweet chili paste instead here is sour with little spicy paste.

Egg Tart RM3.20, Egg Tart outer casing short crust pastry has many layer of crispy crust and delicious lovely egg custard.

Prawn Roll is a must try dim sum as it served immediate after cook from kitchen, people are queuing for it and most of the people get not only one plate. Skin is crispy and thin while the prawn tender soft.

Siew Mai RM3.80 is really delicious, pork mince and prawn is nicely mix together and steamed to create a soft texture.

Fish Ball soft and taste good.

Pork meat with preserved egg, pork mince is soft and flavorful.

Char Siew Pao RM3.20, fluffy bun with Char Siew in it, what special no Foh San Char Siew is they added parsley in it, certain people not really like it.

Double Skin Steamed Milk RM3.80, we had this in Macau where it is very famous, delicious and memorable. Foh San version is way far to achieve that standard as the steamed milk doesn’t has milk flavor instead full of ginger flavor.

Liu Sha Pao, it taste just normal and the filling is not much as well.

Loh Mai Kai RM4.50, ingredient of Sausage, Chicken Meat, Mushroom and Glutinous rice. It taste not bad but the rice is a little bit hard.

It is a hard decision to be made but Foh San is marginally win over the other two as it has bigger restaurant, serving more variety and cleaner as well.

Biggest and Best Dim Sum in Ipoh, visithttp://tasteiest.blogspot.com for more info

Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum Ipoh

Ming Court was another famous Dim Sum in “Dim Sum Street” Ipoh, where the same street you found Foh San and Yoke Fook Moon.

It kinda hard to get table so table sharing is a norm here, when you sat down those aunty will “throw” everything into your table, just make sure those are what you want and they mark it correctly.

Prawn Dumpling skin is yellow color and transparent but it was very small. Bah Kut is soft and juicy.

Fish Ball (Top Left and Center), it just taste normal. Siew Mai(Top Right) and Har Kao(Bottom) are just typical Dim Sum, Har Kao is tasty with big prawn inside and and transparent skin.

Some deep fried Dim Sum, Deep Fried Spring Roll(Top Right), Fried Prawn Roll and Dumpling (Bottom) is crispy and a lot small prawn inside, take together with mayonnaise is perfect.

Wu Kok(Top Right) was made of crispy yam skin and stuffed with char siew. Porridge(Bottom) is just normal.

Chee Cheong Fun stuff with Char Siew and Prawn, Sambai on the side. Nothing special.

This is what we ordered for 3 persons.

Receipt, price is reasonable but the portion is very very small compare to other Dim Sum Restaurant.

Best Porridge and Cheese Prawn at Kedai Makanan Rasa Lain

Rasa Lain is very famous in Ipoh and even popular after Axian visit, we have to call upfront for booking to ensure we got a table. It started to get crowded after 6.30PM and hot seafood like crab and prawn are finish fast.

Nai Pat Vegetable RM10, The fried vegetable was fried in a delicious gravy and crunchy.

Fish Porridge RM66, it was cook with main ingredient of white pomfret. Look at the picture and you know how generous Rasa Lain to their customer.

White Pomfret is very fresh and sweetness disolve into soup make the porridge so delicious. Amount of fish meat is so much that every bowl of porridge at least has 2 slice.

Fish Ball RM9, as big as ping pong ball. It really can bounce like ping pong ball but taste just normal.

Cheese Prawn RM50, SUPERB! Sweet, Sour, Salty and Cheeses. Big fresh prawn cook with cheese in claypot, very juicy and delicious. It is best dipped into claypot cheese again after taken off the shell.

Look at it..Cheese…A lot of Cheese………I going to dream about it again tonight…!

Jiang Gu (Pork)RM18, pork marinated with sweet sauce and deep fried. Tasty

Asam Squid RM18, I not really like this dish but my Lovely like it very much, name said the flavor ~ASAM. Sour, Spicy and Sweet taste.

Pig Tail Braise Peanut RM22, a few of my friend never tried this before and personally myself ate pig tail before in Bah Kut The but not in standalone dish.
I like Pig Tail very much because the meat is very soft, cook with braise peanut make it even better.

Their most recommended dish was the Tang Hun Crab RM54. Very generous amount of glass noodles given. Crab sweetness, pork lard and ham added taste to the Tang Hun and little bit of pepper make it even perfect. Size of the crabs is larger than usual and fresh.
