Hotel Vistana Authentic Malay Delicacy Ramadhan Buffet

This is my very first visit to Hotel Vistana and this round we going to try their Ramadhan Buffet, I am very impress with the “Warung” style decoration and placement, every decoration great demonstrated Malay style which nicely fit the Ramadhan Buffet Theme. The Ramadhan Buffet starting from 19 June until 16 July 2015, RM65 Nett for Adult and RM30 Nett for Children. It consider one of the cheapest buffet you can find in town for a complete buffet line. Great variety of authentic Malay cuisine can be found here.

They served all hot dishes in big bowl and heated, it pretty much like eating Malay economy rice but the portion is much more bigger and more variety.

Ayam Goreng Berempah is one of my favorite as well, it is nicely marinated and deep fried to perfection. I eat a few pieces of it and dipping with curry sauce and Nasi Minyak making it taste awesome.

PLATES Breakfast and Brunch at Lebuh Murni Penang

PLATES, a nice place for breakfast and lunch. INCH, a nice place for drinks and chill out. Both of them actually same shop but operate at different hour, in the day time is PLATES while night time INCH. One shop Two name, such a special restaurant. By the way, this review is about PLATES.

Step into the restaurant there is a wooden chair and table, wall install with metal arch. Proceed further there is an open air area with direct sun light, next to bar counter.

PLATES having a promotion for All-You-Can-Drink Bubbly + Breakfast for RM80, you can choose one breakfast from the menu with free flow of Bubbly aka Sparking Wine.

Prawn Pasta RM16, pasta with Malaysian influence where chili padi and green chili being added, it taste spicy but nice especially the big prawns.

Chicken Spinach Pasta RM16, pasta cook with cream sauce, cube mustard chicken, spinach, onion and tomato. It is nicely done with smooth and creamy texture.

Plates Brekkie RM19, a big portion breakfast that include toast, sausage, cheery tomatoes, hash brown, mushroom, poached egg and beans. The poached egg is perfectly cook to nice and smooth texture, mushroom is nicely season and grilled to perfection. Crispy hash brown dipping with tomato sauce is just nice.

Eggs Benedict RM19, slice portobello mushroom, smoked salmon, lettuce, smoked salmon served on english muffin with hollandaise sauce.

Meatball Sandwich RM14, three slice of baguette sandwich with six big pieces of meat ball stacking up. Honestly it look nice but when come to eating, it is really a nightmare, very messy. Anyhow, personally I found the meat ball to be a little bit dry and hard.

Meatball Pomodoro RM16, spaghetti cook with tomato sauce, beef meatballs, basil and parmesan cheese. Same as above, i found it to be a little bit dry and hard.

Duck Salad RM18, a bunch of vegetable served with turkey bacon and duck breast, julienne apple and orange dressing on top. The duck breast is extremely flavorful and the sourish dressing with crunchy vegetable making it delicious.

Tuna Kataifi Salad RM18, a very special and rare salad, it look to me like a main dish rather than salad as the portion is pretty generous. One big piece of Tuna coated with kataifi served with rocket leaves and kimchi.

Lyonnaise Salad RM16, a combination of poached egg, beef bacon, crouton with assorted vegetable, top with honey mustard dressing.

Pancakes RM16, extremely fluffy and soft pancake topped with apple compote, strawberries, blueberries and a scoop of mascarpone cream. Pancake is nicely done, dipping with the maple syrup is just perfect.

No Name RM14.90, signature dish that mixed all well known pasta in one bowl, combination of Bolognese, Carbonara and Aglio Olio. It is extremely creamy.

Flaming Tuna RM13.90, very thick tomato puree cook with tuna. How come I never thought of this kind of combination, it is simple and yet the sourness of tomato and tuna mix extremely well.

Aglio Olio RM13.90, one of my favorite pasta is definitely Aglio Olio where pasta are cook with olive oil and assorted ingredients such as squid, prawn, ham and mushroom with a little bit dry chili flake making it taste awesome.

Croissant with Scrambled Egg RM12.90, the special made scrambled egg make this dish stand out, the egg is extremely flavorful and the crispy croissant, cheese and ham make the overall combination a great texture and taste.

Tuna Sandwich RM10.90, mix of tuna with seasoning as filling for sandwich, plenty of tuna fill between the toasted bread served with fresh vegetable salad.

Last but not least their signature Thailand Fried Ice Cream, you can choose type of fruits (aka flavor) and topping for just RM6.90. Chosen fruits will be mix and crunch into the ice cream while they fried it then topping will be added after that. The fried process allow the fruits to 100% mix into the ice cream making it flavorful.

The Islander at Hotel Jen Georgetown Penang

Hotel Jen, a newly renovated hotel formerly known as Traders Hotel, under new branding the hotel target customer are youngster and their design has become more trendy as well. The Islander Restaurant located at the lobby are now serving a la carte menu which most of it are local delicacy but due to the demand from foreigner for western food so now they are lauching a new series of menu that consist of Local and Western food, lead by Executive Chef B. Sivasegaran.

Arugula Salad RM16, we use to taste Arugula as Pizza topping before and we really love it so much, surprisingly not much Arugula being as salad in Malaysia or i never came across. I am glad to taste the Arugula salad here that came with great honey sesame dressing.

Grilled Burger RM20 served with fresh vegetable, french frieds and coleslaw. Special made vegetarian patty that mix together couscous, potatoes and herbs with seasoning. Fluffy bun with vegetarian patty added with cheese, slice tomato and lettuce, we found it to be a little bit dry, it should be good if BBQ sauce(any for vegetarian?) being added.

Pan Fried Stuffed Aubergine RM45, another vegetarian dishes that are so special in flavor and texture. Eggplant being use a base topping with couscous, cheese and breadcrumb, soaked in extremely flavorful smoked tomato puree.

Chicken Rosmarino RM53, if you notice that is not a piece of chicken drumstick or breast instead it is whole spring chicken, spring chicken tends to have a lot of small bones so they make it boneless, that is a great move. Spring Chicken is marinated and grilled to perfection top with rosemary and balsamic vinegar sauce.

Baked Trapia RM48, one whole Trapia fish garnished with onion, tomato, olive and assorted herbs wrapped with aluminium foil then cook to perfection, it contain the fish juiciness and the add on ingredients enhance it overall flavor, best thing is no muddy taste coming from the fish. Personally i found the sauce to be a bit watery.

Lamb Osso Buco RM58, i voted this to be the best dish. I just like the big portion of lamb shank that special selected to be around 400 gram by chef. Lamb shank is slow cook with wine, fresh vegetable and broth to create the tender yet flavorful meat. It easily falling off bone and mashed potato that has strong butter flavor mixing well with each other.

Tiramisu Pancake RM20, for typical Tiramisu lady finger will be use a the key ingredients but Chef tweak it with Pancake, an extremely fluffy Pancake that soak with Expresso. Each layer are then fill with mascarpone cheese, cream and butterscotch sauce. It not too sweet and we really enjoy it.

Jen’s Signature RM18, multi layer mud pie that fill with different flavor ice cream such as chocolate and white chocolate then cover with caramel sauce, served with pickle berries and fresh strawberries.
