Folks Cafe located at Lebuh Acheh Penang

Folks Cafe located at Lebuh Acheh, Penang. Another cafe that offer great ambiance and food to local and tourist, it well situated at the UNESCO Heritage Building and one of the spot where tourist visit the most. The restaurant just open 2 months back and it under Flash Back Homestay, a small restaurant that offer simple but great menu to customers.

Cucumber & Mint Refreshing Soda RM9 and Lemon & Rosemary Refreshing Soda RM9, both drink is extremely refreshing and healthy, it is very presentable as well.

Orange Juice RM9, Lime & Cilantro Refreshing Soda RM9 and Lychee & Lime Refreshing Soda RM9.

Crunchy Salads Mushroom RM14, assorted fresh vegetable top with home made sesame dressing and mushroom. Very simple but so delicious especially the home made ingredients that make it so flavorful.

Nibblets Mushroom Munchies RM12, baking of wild button mushroom which is pretty costly, great combination of cheese with some herbs making it so fragrance and tasty.

Skinny Pizza Smoked Salmon RM18, very special smoked salmon use as topping for the thin crust pizza, unfortunately the pizza crust is not crispy at the bottom which make it lack of some texture but still acceptable.

Pasta Carbonara RM16, a plate of creamy pasta that cook with bacon and egg with bonito flake on top, there is no cheese added but if you prefer to have some cheese flavor then you may ask for a cheese powder and add it on your own. The pasta is not over creamy instead it taste pretty good and we just finish the whole plate fast.

All Day Brunch Folks Breakfast - RM16, very simple “burger”, ham and sausage and a bowl of beans. The portion just right for an early breakfast and well balanced as well, like the sausage texture which is full of flavor as well.

A simple cafe with simple menu but food quality is on top notch, reasonable pricing as well.

Xiang Yun Vegetarian Hut

After blogging for almost 3 years I think I has never blog about vegetarian food, well it never too late. Finally I step into vegetarian restaurant and share with you the NO different of vege vs non-vege dishes. Today I going to introduce Xiang Yun Vegetarian Hut that located at at Sungai Nibong opposite Kayu Nasi Kandar.

Popiah and Radish Cake, deep fried to crunchy while remain juiciness inside. I like the radish cake so much, it has the carrot fragrance and crunchiness.

Vegetarian Laksa is another attracting dish, I wonder how they can make it taste so fishy while no fish are use, it has the right amount of spiciness and sourness that very close to normal Laksa.

Curry Burger, they use bangkali roti and curry potato to create this burger. The bread has some sweetness while the curry potato taste a little bit spicy which create a well balanced taste.

Tomato Bee Hun, tomato purée use to stir fried bee hun and the bee hun fully absorb the tomato taste, every mouth of bee hon full of tomato taste.

Celery Noodle is something new that you can’t get anywhere else in Penang, although I don’t like celery but I don’t know why I can accept this dish easily.

Jawa Mee

Char Hor Fun is another attracting dishes which has the wok hei and it taste exactly the same as the normal char hor fun.

Curry Mee is pretty delicious where the soup is rich in flavour and the side ingredients given is perfectly match with it.

Hokkien Mee is another dish that surprise me, even without prawn in it but it has prawn like taste which is awesome, putting in more chili paste make it even better.

Koay Chiap has a lot of parsley in it hence I not really enjoy the dish and the lack of duck meat make me feel like something missing.

Loh Mee is rather normal and I feel it lack of some flavour, probably some meat flavour is missing.

Herbal Soup Noodle has strong herbal taste and the soup is rich in flavor, it also has my favorite dried lycium and mushroom in it.

Vegetarian Meat in Herbal Soup Noodle look and taste exactly the same as original meat.

Chee Cheong Fun, normally prawn paste are the key in Chee Cheong Fun paste but even without the absence of prawn paste it still remain the original taste of Chee Cheong Fun.

Bintang Rock Ramadan Buffet at Hard Rock Hotel Penang

Bintang Rock Buffet promotion at Hard Rock Hotel during fasting month of Ramadhan, the buffet dinner available from 9th July until 9th August 2013 at their restaurant Starz Diner. The Bintang Rock Buffet priced at RM68++ for adult and RM34++ for child. Good News! Every 10 diners, 11th diner Free Of Charge. Please refer bottom of the page for booking information.

Let get started with Kerabu which is a mixture of various ingredients with local dressing aka salad. Assorted Kerabu such as Kerabu Ikan Kembung(Mackerel Salad), Kerabu Sotong(Squid Salad), Kerabu Udang(Prawn Salad), Kerabu Nangka(Jackfruit Salad) and Kerabu Daging Salad(Beef and Mango Salad). Each has it own unique taste and most of them are very appetizing, definitely a great start for buffet.

Personally we enjoy eating the mango salad and those salad with rice noodle, rice noodle able to fully absorb those sweet and sour flavor while provide a springy texture.

Kerabu

Nasi Ulam is an traditional rice dish that mixed with various herbs and vegetables.

If you not use to those traditional appetizer then you may choose to have the western salad as well.

On the main dish there is some local hot dishes for selection, such as Hong Kong Kailan with Garlic, Gulai Ayam and Sambal Sotong Emak

Braised Tofu with Seafood, Daging Masak Kicap and Curry Prawn

Laksa was rather disappointed as it has very strong burnt smell and fishy taste, there is big room of improvement for Laksa.

Roti Canai is not bad, it has the crunchiness for those freshly made but it a little bit chewy for those left over long period, I would suggest they only made a few or made it upon request to ensure crunchiness.

There is two type of Satay, either Chicken Satay or Beef Satay. Chicken Satay is pretty delicious and soft but Beef Satay is way too hard and chewy.

Fruit Corner consists of orange, watermelon, honeydew…etc.

Traditional Dessert very attracting, those are the dessert we use to eat during Hari Raya from our beloved Malay friends. Each of the traditional dessert has its own unique texture and flavor, tasting each of them filling at least a quarter of my stomach but it definitely worth it.

Here is another famous traditional dessert Pulut Hitam which is one of my favorite of the night even though it slightly too sweet but I like the taste and texture very much.

Rojak Corner is another type of fresh fruit salad mix with shrimp paste.

Three different flavor of ice cream pre scoop and keep in the fridge, it definitely a good idea to avoid long scooping time which always make the ice cream melt.

Assorted western dessert such as Chocolate Cake, Strawberry Cake and Cheese Cake.

If you are not fan of buffet, you may opt for Rock Platter for RM120++ (2 Pax), the package include appetizer, main course and dessert. Rock Platter serving time from 11:30am until 10:30pm starting from 10th July until 7th August 2013.
Rock Platter is extremely presentable where assorted local delicacy such as Onion Ring, Tomato Rice, Tomyum Linguine, Red Cooked Chicken, Tupelo Chicken Tenders, Grilled Mini Beef Quesadilla, Hickory-Smoked Barbeque Chicken, Mini Rendang Pulled Chicken Sandwich.

Soup of the day

Dessert of the day is Mini Apple Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream.

Next Stop, Take a break, have a bite! Is another newly established fast food restaurant in Penang who specialized in seafood set meals at affordable price. Currently Next Stop has 3 outlet situated at Gurney Plaza, 1st Avenue Mall and Sunway Carnival Mall. The outlet we visit is 1st Avenue Mall at top floor right in front of Red Box Karaoke, the restaurant is open space with a big red bus as their signature sign.

Next Fish Burrito Set, deep fried fish fillet wrapped with fresh crunchy vegetable and mayonnaise,

Next Fish Sandwich Set, it can be called as burger as well if you wish since it look exactly like a burger. It is fish fillet make into square size together with fluffy bun and mayonnaise.

Cheesey Stix, wrapped cheddar cheese with breadcum deep fried to golden color. Every bite melting cheese flowing out from inside to our mouth, it just so tasty.

Tomato Soup is extremely thick with rich flavor, pure tomato puree that taste quite sour, it will be good if they mix with a little bit more water. It is a great combination with deep fried stuff.

Fish & Chip is rather different compare to others, it is not oily and the fish fillet use also different, normally dolly fish is use but they use another type of import fish that has better texture and sweetness.

Salt & Pepper Squid Set, deep fried cut which has exactly the same texture as original squid with a little bit chewy texture and sautéed taste.

Pineapple and Cocoa Sorbet is definitely a must ordered dish at Next Stop, it is big in portion and best thing is the attractive price. For just RM7.90 you got a big portion of fresh sorbet that taste extremely refreshing, we actually stop by a few time just for the sorbet.

Spade’s Burger

Spade’s Burger is a newly open burger shop located at Taman Pekaka where the famous Maxims Dim Sum located, Spade’s Burger is actually using Maxims Dim Sum shop lot at night selling burger. The setup of the burger shop is very simple as they just into business but slowly they will expand and make it better.

The trend today is Charcoal Bun and Charcoal Bun. Everyone is trying to make a good charcoal bun and Spade Burger did not disappointed us with their charcoal bun as it is fluffy and nice looking.

Burger patty are self-made with their own secret ingredient and grilled to perfection. The original patty is bigger than what is show in picture as this is special made for tasting, we have a number of burger to try out throughout the whole night.

Different type of burger has its own ingredients but all does has the special made secret sauce.

Bacon strips burn at the side, it will be good if they can cut it out.

Porky Pair RM9.90 which came with single patty, bacon strip and cheese. Pork is slightly overcook and dry inside but the seasoning is enough to make it flavorful.

Spade’s Hot Chick RM9.90 with single patty, cheese and bacon. Chicken patty has much better taste and juicy inside.

Last but not least the must try Shroomception which is new to the menu and you will never know what is it until you have a bite on it. A huge Portobello mushroom is deep fried and top with golden mushroom as burger patty. It is so special and delicious.
